You can practically taste the magic in homemade Butterbeer.

It's no secret that my kids and I are huge Harry Potter fans (I don't know what happened with my husband, but we all love him anyways). We love going to the Wizarding World in Orlando, and drinking the butterbeer there is a definite highlight!

I wanted to recreate this drink at home so we can enjoy it while we snuggle up to read Harry Potter books, watch the movies, enjoy on Halloween, or any fun party.

For all of my Harry Potter fans out there, let me know what house you are in the comments. I'm a Ravenclaw!

This looks so fun and nostalgic – love how simple the recipe is but still captures that rich, creamy butterbeer flavor. The homemade butterscotch sauce with apple cider is a really nice touch and adds more depth than just using syrup.
I also like that you included both hot and cold versions – it makes it perfect for different seasons. I tried something similar once, and chilling the mixture first really improves the balance when using cream soda

I’ve been exploring different drink combinations and flavors lately, especially how sweetness and creaminess work together in beverages

Definitely trying this for a cozy movie night!

Hi Lauren!
For someone who has never explored the Wizarding World of Butterbeer, I find this recipe intriguing!
I also think a nice warm wee mug of it would be perfect right now as we are enveloped in a Very Deep Freeze where I live!
By any chance would ‘regular’ 100% apple juice be acceptable as a substitution for the apple cider?
Our market is not offering wide availability of non-alchoholic apple cider just now.
Thank you so much, Laurie, and I’m looking forward to trying this delicious sounding treat!
I really enjoy your site, and appreciate the hard work dedicated to it! We’ve had many very tasty meals and treats from it.
“Cheers” from The Canadian Prairies.

Yes, you can absolutely use regular 100% apple juice. The flavor will be a little lighter and less “spiced” than apple cider, but it will still be delicious. If you want to boost it just a bit, you could add an extra pinch of cinnamon or allspice. So glad you’ve been enjoying the site, and thanks so much for the kind words. Stay warm and enjoy your Butterbeer!

To be consumed in small quantities! It is VERY sweet. It had a good flavor but not never butterscotchy. More so just a sweetened apple cider.

So please don’t think I’m stupid but are you using the Werther’s soft caramels or the hard candy caramels? Thanks
