An easy, southern-style sausage gravy with flaky homemade biscuits makes the BEST Biscuits and Gravy! One of our favorite breakfast recipes of all time!
It's no secret that a yummy homemade breakfast makes me excited to get up on Saturday morning. Our weekday breakfasts usually consist of plain old oatmeal or freezer breakfast sandwiches but on the weekends I like to make something much more fun!

This sausage gravy recipe is a TREASURE in our family, thanks to my mother-in-law. She's made it so many times she has completely perfected the recipe, and now it's one of our favorite breakfasts.
I should issue a disclaimer that you'll never want to order biscuits and gravy from a restaurant after trying this recipe. I know from experience that every other will pale in comparison. But the good news is that it's just about one of the easiest things in the world to make.
Pair it with my absolute favorite homemade, light and flaky buttermilk biscuits and you will be in heaven!

Sausage Gravy Ingredients:
- Pork sausage: any sausage will work and choose hot or milk based on your preference. I think it's best with sausage, but you could substitute bacon or other chopped meats.
- Flour and butter: for flavor and to thicken the gravy
- Half and half– or substitute whole or 2% milk.
- Seasoning: Thyme, Rosemary, Crushed red pepper

I use this recipe every time and it’s the best.
The absolute best and easiest sausage and gravy recipe ever! Highly recommend! So savory!
These were a huge hit at my house. Will make again soon!
It was delicious!! Definitely add some salt tho. Everyone said today’s breakfast was bomb/delicious.
This recipe is DELICIOUS! My father asked for biscuits and gravy for his Father’s Day brunch. I have never made this dish before. I selected this recipe based on the consistent reviews. I appreciated the video, too. The only ingredient that I did not use was the rosemary (only because I did not have any rosemary on hand)…otherwise, I followed the recipe exactly and it’s a WINNER! Will be making again.
This really IS the best biscuits and gravy recipe!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!
Just made for Christmas morning and it was delicious!!!
As others have said, I’ve been making gravy for years, but it’s always a mystery how well it will turn out! Hahaha However, this recipe is hands down the easiest, tastiest and consistently perfect sausage gravy recipe ever! Thank you!!!
I have been making biscuits and gravy for years, pretty much off the top of my head. They were always fine but today I wondered if a recipe could up my game? Ohhhh indeed you did! I think it’s the half and half change from milk. But all these simple ingredients make a mouth watering combination! Absolutely to die for!!! I’m never turning back!!! Thank You for the ultimate recipe!!! ❤️
Best gravy ever!
My family requests this at least twice a month. No need to make any changes to the recipe, it’s perfect as is and so easy to make.
My daughter asked me to make biscuits and gravy. I told her that I have never mad them and that we needed to get a recipe. She picked this one so I made it and she loved it! i was also surprised at how good it tasted. I don’t usually eat that heavy of a breakfast but I wanted to try it. It was delicious! I substituted the pork sausage for turkey sausage and it still tasted great. I love that it doesn’t have a lot of ingredients but still has great flavor.
It came out perfect! I wouldn’t make any changes.
I use Greek yogurt with 1/4 cup milk….I did not have buttermilk and also for flouring work surface Self rising flour. 👍👍👍👍
I had a hard time getting this to thicken and ended up adding two more teaspoons of flour. It took a lot longer to make because I was waiting for it to thicken. Other than that it was a pretty good and easy recipe.
Exact same thing happened to me when making this for Fathers Day breakfast. I also added about 2 t more of flour. Everyone really liked the flavor.
All of our neighbors have made us biscuits and gravy for years. We finally reciprocated with this recipe a few weeks ago. They all felt like we were holding back all this time. It has such great spice and really does make the best gravy. We are going to try to freeze some of the gravy this time because if we share again, the neighbors will know why we have been putting on the lbs. Lol. This IS the best.. if you like a spicy gravy. Also, I used Tennessee Spicy sausage and whole milk. Instead of rosemary and thyme I subbes 1/4 tsp of Italian Seasoning since I didn’t have the others.
