A deliciously addicting and easy Peanut Butter Mug Cake made with simple pantry ingredients combined in a cup and cooked in the microwave for 1 minute.

Peanut Butter Mug Cake with a spoon taking a bite out.

We love mug cakes here at TBFS. Don’t miss our hugely popular Vanilla mug cake or our chocolate and pumpkin mug cakes.

A lot of care went into perfecting this peanut butter mug cake and I’m so proud of how it turned out! The peanut butter makes it extra moist and flavorful.

Mug cakes are all the rage right now, and what’s not to love about an individual serving of cake that can be made and cooked in about 5 minutes?

Ingredients in Peanut Butter Mug Cake:

  • Pantry staples: Flour, sugar, and baking powder.
  • Milk. Or use a dairy-free substitute.
  • Butter or Oil.
  • Peanut butter. Any type of nut butter should work!
  • Vanilla extract.
  • Chocolate chips. Reese’s pieces would be delicious too!

Flour, peanut butter, butter, sugar and baking powder in a mug, ready to cook in the microwave.
  • Cook in microwave for 70-90 seconds* (until cake is just set, but still barely shiny on top). Allow to rest in microwave for 1 minute before consuming.

Notes

*Because all microwaves are different, it’s difficult to give a precise cook time. Start with 70 seconds, wait 1 minute while it cools, then look to see if it is set. Add an additional 15-25 seconds if needed. Allow it to rest in the microwave for 1 minute.
The trick with mug cakes is to stop cooking the cake earlier than you think, because you want it to be soft on the inside, and the cake will also continue to cook as it cools.

The recipe was super fun to make, a bit chaotic for me because I mixed up tablespoon with cups, but it tasted good and I loved how easy it was to make, using only things that basically everybody has in their household. It was a little bit crummy, it wasn’t tight but the taste made up for it, and it was good with the dark chocolate. And I added some whipped cream.
    Thank you Lauren!

I used whole wheat flour and it came out warm and crumbly!!!! So so good. I’ve never had a good mug cake before so this was a win!!!

I don’t usually comment on recipes, but I really love this one. I’ve found that just one tablespoon of sugar works for me. I also replace the oil with applesauce and it is still really good!

  4. I made this just as is – butter, milk, chocolate chips, oh my! New go to fave for this house. Word of caution – chips are HOT and will burn your mouth if you try to inhale right from the nuker, lol!!

This was so tasty! I added some crushed peanuts to mine and topped it with some melted chocolate. Can’t wait to make this again with any iterations of toppings and add-ins, I’m thinking some bacon bits and then banana slices on top for an Elvis moment… 😉

My peanut butter loving toddler went on a PB strike about a couple months ago. We replaced PB with Nutella & a sprinkling of sprinkles on top. Because of course she did. 🙂 Sooo good, thank you for your recipe! It’s wonderful and I love your notes for variations! Oh and my girl says she loves you <3

Great, quick recipe that satisfied my PB/chocolate craving. I added the cocoa powder, used Fairlife chocolate milk and I didn’t have any chocolate hips on hand. Still was enjoyable without them.

Just made this and added a tablespoon of chocolate protein powder plus an extra tablespoon of skim milk for a little protein boost. Yum!

I tried it with cocoa powder (1 1/2 tsp) and it was a big fail. 🙁 The texture wasn’t right and I knew it, but I had no clue how to fix it.

    1. I used some chocolate protein powder and added more milk to balance the additional dry ingredient (1:1 tbsp ratio worked well)

  10. It’s super delicious. Peanut butter is always been my favourite but had never tried recipes out of it. This is the first one and it turned out to be amazingly yummy and plus it’s eggless. I loved it, thank you so much for the recipe.

Tastes amazing!! Especially with some white chocolate chips (that’s all I had in my pantry but it tastes so good) recipe is simple to follow and smells like a warm hug

Why, why do you tempt me with your delicious treats?! I am a sucker for all things chocolate and peanut butter, so naturally, I had to try this. I’m not lying when I say this could be my new favorite treat. It’s insanely easy to make, I almost always have the ingredients, and it always satisfies my ever present sweet tooth. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
