What is frozen yogurt?

Frozen yogurt is a yogurt based frozen dessert that is similar to ice cream in texture and consistency.  It is a popular low fat frozen dessert thats main ingredients include yogurt and fruit.

What’s the difference between ice cream and frozen yogurt?

The biggest difference between ice cream and frozen yogurt is the type of dairy that is it’s main ingredient. Ice creams main ingredient is heavy cream where the main ingredient in frozen yogurt is yogurt, or cultured milk.

If frozen yogurt healthy?

Many people assume that because frozen yogurt is different from ice cream, it is a healthy dessert.  But which one is really healthier?  Ice cream is made with heavy cream, and so it often has a higher fat content than frozen yogurt.  However, while frozen yogurt may be lower in fat, it is often higher in sugar content.  Because fat contributes more calories per gram than sugar, ice cream is often a bit higher in total calories than frozen yogurt.

However, be careful and don’t just assume your frozen yogurt is healthy because it’s called yogurt instead of ice cream. When considering the health difference between frozen yogurt and ice cream, consider what flavor of dessert you choose, and how many grams of sugar in contains.   Some frozen yogurt flavors are completely packed with sugar!

  1. I don’t have greek yogurt so I think i’ll just drain my regular plain yogurt for a few minutes in my fine mesh strainer. I’m sure this recipe is a winner. Real vanilla beans, stevia, and xanthan gum are also my intended changes. I read recently that a famous ice cream brand sold out and is nowhere near the same recipe of old. So sad! This easy healthy recipe makes me happy again, lol.

  2. I’m wondering if I could use Fat Free Greek Yogurt in your recipe. I follow Weight Watchers and am always looking for low point desserts to satisfy my sweets cravings.

This froyo is so delicious!!!! I make it for my 21-month-old and she loves it! I substitute peaches with lots of fruit if I am out, and it works just as well! Try that if you wanna change it up a bit! I did find the same exact recipe..measurements, ingredients, everything! But you know, the more the merrier! This is still a 5-star recipe!

The boys LOVE this treat! I feel so good giving it to them. There is a lot of additives in so much of our food these days but not this one! Feels clean and who cares about the calories… it’s healthy ice cream/yogurt to us!! 🙂

Please don’t leave hateful and unconstructive comments especially when you didn’t make the recipe. They will be deleted, that’s my prerogative as this is my website.

  5. Do you think I could use vanilla Greek yogurt (I know it would have the added sugar) and omit the honey? I’d like to make this for my baby, and he can’t have honey yet.

  6. What kind of food processor do you recommend? I have been wanting to get one but haven’t known what kind would be most versatile. Thanks for your amazing recipes and for including nutrition for each. I love that!

    1. I have the Hamilton Beach brand for my larger food processor (a 12-cup), and I also have a small cusinart one. Both have been great!

I made this tonight with frozen peaches from a farm stand. Mine was delicious with an additional tablespoon of honey. I mixed all the ingredients in my Cuisinart and then froze it in my ice cream maker. I would make this again!

    Hi Lauren:)

I hope you get this……I Love your recipes….can’t wait to try alot of them!

I have a few questions about this Peach Frozen Yogurt, ok?
I just received a Wolfgang Puck’s Dessert Maker and it makes ice cream and frozen yogurt type desserts.

**If I wanted to Double this recipe, how much of each ingredient would I Need to make a Quart??
**Do I still make it all the same and just put it in the frozen ‘Freezer Bowl’ and run the Dessert maker just the same,
    with the paddle, etc.??
Also, Lauren, if you have Any Other Frozen Yogurt Recipes, please let me know, as I am trying to make a lower calorie frozen yogurt and healthier treat.

Also** Would ‘Stevia’ work in the frozen yogurt??

If you have any other tips that would help me, I would appreciate it:)

    Thanks so much
    Judy
