I can’t think of a quicker or more satisfying way to curb a sweet tooth than with a thick Chocolate Milkshake! My husband is the king of shakes at our house and this is the method he uses! We add our Homemade Hot Fudge to make this thick chocolate milkshake recipe even more decadent!

How to make a Chocolate Milkshake:

  1. Combine ice cream, milk, and chocolate sauce in a blender.
  2. Blend until combined, add more milk if needed. For a thicker shake, add more ice cream. For a thinner shake, add more milk.
  3. Serve topped with whipped cream, if desired.

Recipe Variations:

  • Chocolate Milkshake without Ice Cream: Instead of ice cream, add a couple frozen bananas and plenty of ice.
  • Chocolate Milkshake with Cocoa Powder: Add ¼ cup warm water, 6 tablespoons of cocoa powder and 3 tablespoons of sugar to a blender and blend on low. Add ice cream and a splash of milk if needed, and blend to combine.
  • Chocolate Banana Milkshake: Add a frozen banana and blend with other ingredients.
  • Vegan Chocolate Milkshake: Substitute almond milk and vegan vanilla ice cream. Omit whipping cream.

There isn’t enough liquid in this recipe for the blender blades to activate and churn the contents. I added an addition 1 1/2 cups of half and half.

  2. Here is what I am trying today.
Use Coffee ice cream for a change.
And, Malt powder adds a nice kick of tastyness.

  3. I am probably the biggest critic of chocolate milkshakes.
If it is made with vanilla ice cream, it is a fail.
Vanilla can not be converted to chocolate,
When I make it at home I use fairlife chocolate milk with a good quality chocolate ice cream.

    1. That’s where we will have to agree to disagree! I love the flavor so much more when made with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce!

It is not asking you to convert vanilla to chocolate. If you want a vanilla shake put in the required amount, if you want chocolate put in the required amount of CHOCOLATE ice cream. I had the vanilla one and it tasted amazing. I also tried converting vanilla to chocolate it tasted almost as good as the other way around.

No joke, I would put these up against any milkshake from a fast food restaurant – they were that good! Will definitely be making again.

It’s not like fast food restaurants have a secret way of making it. Shakes are just ice cream and milk with some sort of flavoring.
