This easy French Toast recipe is the BEST, with a thicker batter and cinnamon sugar flavors that really set it apart. It’s one of our family’s favorite breakfasts!

If I offered up breakfast options for a family vote, everyone would choose this classic French Toast recipe, served with fresh fruit, syrup and whipped cream! We’ve been making it for decades, and it’s truly the best french toast recipe!
How to Make French Toast:
Combine Ingredients: Add of the ingredients, except the bread, to a blender or shallow dish and mix to combine.
Dip Bread: Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, dredging on both sides.
Cook: Place bread on hot greased griddle or large skillet. Cook for a few minutes on each side, until golden.
Serve: I love to serve this easy french toast warm, with homemade syrup and a side of berries!
Ingredients Notes:
Bread: I recommend using thick sliced bread, like Sara Lee Artesano, Texas Toast, or leftover homemade bread. It’s nice (but not necessary) if the bread is a few days old, or slightly stale. We also loving using thick slices of cinnamon bread or brioche!
Flour: My Secret Ingredient! The flour helps to make more of a “batter” for dipping the bread, which yields extra fluffy and delicious french toast. If mixing the batter by hand, start by mixing flour and eggs, then add the milk and remaining ingredients.
Milk: Any kind of milk will work (even dairy free), but the the higher fat milk, the creamier the batter will be. Whole milk works great and you could even add a little splash of cream if you want.

Make Ahead and Freezing Instructions:
To Make Ahead: The batter can be made 1-2 days ahead of time, depending on the freshness of your ingredients.
To Freeze: Allow french toast to cool completely and store in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Rewarm on a skillet, in the toaster, or for a few seconds in the microwave.

very tasty
I used french bread.
Been cooking French Toast for decades and thought the sogginess was just a characteristic of homemade French Toast. My daughter and I did this according to your recipe last night and my God. In the words of my wife, “It tasted just like the French Toast sticks you get at the store and at restaurants.” Adding flour to the mix was like finding out that chocolate milk changes your life with a sprinkle of salt in it. The only thing is with our griddle set at 350, they cooked proper twice as fast as the recipe noted (even burned a piece or two) and I used a bit more cinnamon because…yeah. Great recipe!
okay so other than my previous comment about Instruction #2 (I never did get it to mix thoroughly, but close!), this IS a delicious recipe. with the one modification I suggested, this now becomes my go-to for French toast. thank you for sharing!
Great and well received by the seniors that I provide meals for on a regular basis.
Amazing. For the first time, my french toast is as good as the diner.
Fantastic recipe! I used buttermilk this morning, and it was a big hit. Love the addition of flour and the proportions of eggs to milk. Thanks!
The best French toast ever!I used brioche bread and it melted in my mouth. Thanks for a great recipe!
I’m going to take this this weekend, but I’ll use sourdough bread. It gives a little bite that blends with the sweetness so well.
Awesome recipe. Tastes fantastic. Recommend using metric weight measurements as measuring 1/3 cups is sort arbitrary
Love the recipe, similar to French Toast made for decades, love the addition of flour. One thing different I do, instead of sugar, add couple tablespoons maple syrup…helps brown it up nicely, and what a great flavor …cut calories since not needing additional syrup. Also, I add freshly rasped nutmeg…so strong a flavor, only need few swipes on the rasp, but what a diff from the pre-packaged stuff.
As Tony the tiger says, GREEEAAAT! 😋
We drink 2% milk, so I added 1/4 Cup of Half & Half, along with the 2/3 Cup of 2% milk. I used thick slices of homemade white bread.
Absolutely the best French Toast I’ve ever eaten!
Next time I will try adding blueberries with Sara Lee Artesano , thank you berry much!
By the way, your not a single mom of 4 are you?!
This is the absolute best recipe I have ever made for French Toast! The only way I will make french toast for now on.
Just made this for the first time. Adding flour made my bread so much fluffier. This will be new way to make French toast from now on!
Very delicious. I make it w/Just Egg substitute and unsweetened almond milk for dairy/egg allergic family members and it is a big hit. One thing;I took a snap shot w/my phone of this recipe. Now I see the snap photo says 1/2 C of sugar but now the website says 1/4 C. I’m sure I used 1/2 around January 2022. Carol
This is the best recipe for French Toast! I use Texas toast or brioche bread. It is absolutely perfect without changing a thing! My kids and all of their friends request that I make this recipe frequently. I’ve even heard the boy’s (13 year olds) talking about it.
Excellent!
I used Brioche bread and brown sugar in lieu of white. Very similar to my the recipe my mom made when I was younger. The flour makes a huge difference in the batter. Don’t skip that ingredient. It does make a difference. I used up all the batter and froze the slices. I allowed them to cool on a wire rack before freezing in a freezer bag with foil between the slices.
Wow! If you love warm, fluffy French toast make this recipe. We used soft, leftover hamburger buns and even using those it turned out great! (I smashed the top bun a bit with the spatula.) Making 1/2 the recipe worked fine too. 🙂
My husband, a chef, is quite particular with his food and only likes french toast if it isn’t soggy! I’ve made a lot of recipes that ended in soggy french toast despite experimenting with the egg/milk ratio! I declared I was craving french toast this morning and saw your recipe had good reviews. I always scroll at the ingredients before committing to a recipe and the fact that you added flour, had me questions the 20 years of my life! I immediately knew you were on to something! Sure enough the flour added that extra touch that coated the bread perfectly and in my opinion probably helped prevent the french toast from getting too soggy! The french toast was bomb, and hubby approved! My new go to recipe! Thanks a million!
I added extra vanilla flavor and cinnamon and used whole wheat bread, next time I will use brioche bread.
Delicious and super easy to make. I used evaporated milk because we were out of regular.
Was awesome
The best French Toast is when you soak the bread in the egg mixture over night and then cook it in a fry pan with butter. THE BEST!!! Don’t just dip it, SOAK IT!!!
It is so good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my go to French Toast recipe now. The flour gives it that little extra cling and actually fries up well in some brown butter.
This was my first attempt at making French Toast, it turned out soo good, I’m not going to try any other recipes. My housemates all loved it and said how delicious they were. I’m about to make some more now, so glad I picked your recipe first. I used brioche
This is the first time I’ve made French Toast, turned out delicious. I did use brioche. Will be making again soon.
This is the recipe we had in my junior high school home economic class in 1984. Good recipe.
Oh my goodness this French toast is good. My husband claims to hate French toast so he wasn’t excited when I made it but he ended up loving it ha. I tried just using a whisk for the batter but I ended up putting it in the blender because of the flour clumps. This is a keeper thank you!
Such an amazing recipe!! Hard to just leave it at that, because I think most of not all of these recipes are so incredible, but I love making this one for my kids on Saturday mornings. Thank you!!
This recipe was amazing. My 6 year old loved it. We will definitely be making it again. Thank you so much.
I thought I had a decent french toast recipe until I tried this one. This recipe just seems to have so much flavor – it’s delicious!
The best French toast I’ve made. So good.
I had no idea I could make anything which tastes this good! Thank you Lauren!
I have never rated a recipe before. This was so good I had to brag on it. Even my picky husband loved it!
Best french toast!!! A lot of my favorite recipes are from “Tastes Better From Scratch” !!!!
Thank you!!
My father always used flour to make a batter for his French Toast. I didn’t realize that people made it with just eggs and milk until I was an adult. It really makes a big difference.
Classic consistently good recipe! We love it!
I tried this today and it is so good! The flavor is wonderful. I used heavy cream so it was a rich and velvety batter. I mixed the flour in the eggs before adding the rest of the ingredients. No lumps! Do let the Texas toast dry out a little in the oven. This will be my go to recipe.
These were delicious! What kind of griddle do you have? What stove top (double burner) griddle would you recommend?
I use white bread from my breadmaker (because it’s all I know how to do well) and made it for Christmas brunch. My daughter loved it so much, she drove an hour a couple weeks later for it. It’s SO DELICIOUS and easy. I can whip the ingredients up beforehand and then make it fresh.
This is so awesome. I love this recipe. Such good flavor..
This is the best french toast recipe I have ever used! I have used it with many different types of bread and it always turns out perfectly. My son’s favorite bread is a bagel, which we top with softened cream cheese and syrup. Thanks for sharing this fantastic recipe!
BEST RECIPE HANDS DOWN!!! We love it easy to make and taste great!!
I made your French toast recipe today and we liked it very much! I’m a very experienced cook and have never put flour or sugar into the batter before, the other ingredients were typical for me to use on French toast. I used homemade white bread cut thick and sauteed apples for the topping, which sent it over the top. I will use your recipe again, it was enjoyed by my husband and I. Thank you!
I used old bread i had in the refrigerator ..buns and sliced bread. My family looked at the bread funny and was giving me the side eye lol but they loved it. Great recipe . I added an extra tablespoon of vanilla flavoring to the recipe for extra flavor .
This recipe is soooo bomb and so easy. I have tried so many recipes from online pages & this tops the cake by so much. Took me less than 20 minutes to prep and make.
I was looking for a recipe to make homemade French toast and found this one! It’s the best! I used homemade bread but I did also try a store bought loaf of Texas toast bread too and that is also very tasty. Don’t forget to make the homemade pancake syrup when you make it!
Love this recipe. I’ve been making a similar recipe for years. If you wisk the eggs and flour together first, then other ingredients you won’t have lumps in your batter.
I love it! My family loves it! I will always make my French toast this way. My(our) French toast taste better than the chain restaurants. This receive deserves four stars. Thank you for sharing.
Very easy to make and taste great. Even my son who doesn’t care for French toast likes it.
I made this french toast for our breakfast today. Like many others, I have never before made with flour, so this was a first. I unfortunately had to half the recipe as I only had 2 eggs left, but it was incredible! I also just ran out of vanilla, so I substituted with coffee. This was amazingly delicious! We’ll definitely be enjoying it again! Thank you!
I have been making French Toast for years and I have Never used flour in it…WOW! Definitely my “go to” breakfast when we have company or on vacation. Best Ever!! THX
I’ve made this many times. My family loves them. The flour in the batter helps it stay crispy. I use the easy mixing flour meant for sauces. And I tend to use a little less than the recipe because it clumps.
Delicious!
I used brioche bread. My husband and I loved it. We both agreed that it was the best French toast recipe thus far.
The only change I made was less sugar…used a half of a cup. This recipe is definitely a keeper. Thank you.
Her recipe only called for a quarter cup of sugar, so technically you doubled the sugar. Glad you enjoyed it though, it is yummy!
Good recipe, my siblings and I made half of the recipe using white sandwich bread and it tasted good. Also omitted the cinnamon because we did not have any. It’s just like the french toast we usually have here which is made using pancake batter. Worth doing again since it’s so fast and easy (and of course delicious)
Delicious! Thanks for sharing.
I made a whole bags worth of bread 😭
I have never been a huge fan of french toast but after trying this recipe I find it to be the best I ever tasted! Great recipe!!!
Tried this French Toast recipe for breakfast this morning. It was DELICIOUS!!! It was so good, I added it to my collection of go-to recipes. Very glad you shared it-YUM!
Excellent! We all loved it. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve tried a couple of french toast recipes and I prefer this one to all the others I’ve tried. I really like this recipe.
Wow, I would love to try this recipe. I’ma beginner cook and cannot cook according right. I have a question, how do you make bread stale so that it’s a day old? Do I keep it out exposed to air for a day? Thank you in advanced.
Yes, just exposing it to air will work, or you can place it in the oven (around 200 degrees), until dry.
Outstanding! Tried this recipe for the first time for Sunday brunch. The best french toast recipe EVER! I will never make french toast any other way. We used Sara Lee’s Artesano Brioche bread. YUM! Thank you SO much for totally upping my french toast game. Love it! :o)
This is my favorite recipe for French Toast. You were right the secret ingredient sure made a difference!!
I followed your French Toast recipe today and things will never be the same! Flour?! Who would have thought it?! Thanks!
Easy Peasy! I cut it in half for just 4 slices & it was yummy! I used cinnamon sugar since I had it & no problemo
The only French toast recipe my family will use again!! Thank you for sharing.
This was Amazing! Seriously the best I have ever eaten! With the Covid Pandemic Staying in… We are all cooking and baking like never before. I had made bread from scratch earlier in the week. (also a first!) French Toast seemed like a great Sunday Treat. Our kitchen smelt like heaven and it was a wonderful escape from the norm. Thank you.
This recipe is the best anyone can ever find. After trying out several of really similar recipes this one hit the spot. The flour makes it suupperrr soft and fluffy…
Fantastic recipe! If you want to kick it up a notch add a dash of black pepper. Also grind up some capn crunch in a food processor and dip the bread in it after dipping it in the mixture, it’s amazing!
The best French toast ever! My daughter discovered this recipe and we will never go back to the way we’ve always made French toast.
Wow! This recipe was a slam dunk for the morning after my husband’s first (and hopefully only) birthday in quarantine. I used my homemade cinnamon swirl bread I made especially for French toast and this was the best batter recipe I have ever seen. The flour really is the secret ingredient!
It’s my Birthday, too! Great receipe!
Best French toast I have ever had… I followed your recipe except I changed one small thing I used a little bit of vanilla and a little bit of almond flavoring and vanilla the rest of it is just like you wrote it…. It is by far the best …..thank you so much for sharing….
I think the flour makes the difference….. thank you again
Hi. This is by far the best French toast Recipe I’ve tried. Thank you ! I was skeptical about the flour but it does work. 😍. My husband and I enjoyed it with with walnuts, blueberries and maple syrup. It’s a winner!
Uh. Amazing. Just make it.
This was so GOOD!!! I used the Artisano bread and there was enough batter to do almost the whole loaf- so we have leftovers for the rest of the week.
This recipe is the absolute besr with a whole grain medium texture bread. It was so good that I ate 3 slices this morning. Great, dangerous recipe!
It was goood
Thank you so much for the recipe! Just made it today… SO GOOD!!! BESTTTT!
Delicious!! 😋😋😋
This is by far the best French toast recipe I’ve tried. Our kids love French toast, when I tried this recipe they kept coming for more.
Delicious! One of the best recipes I have used, for French toast!
I have used this French toast recipe 3 times, in the ladt 2 weeks, and it us the very best recipe out there!!! I thought I made good French toast before, but this took it to a while other level!!! Thank you for this recipe and every body should give this a try!!! I used brioche and it is definitely 5 stars!!!!
This was such a good recipe!!! Encourage everyone to make it!!!
AWESOME FRENCH TOAST!
Made this French Toast recipe and never thought about adding flour to my former go-to recipe. It made the recipe amazing! Made two adjustments. I added 1/3 cup light cream to the 1/3 cup of whole milk. I additionally added 1/8 tsp of Nutmeg. Topping this with powdered sugar while adding Irish Butter using 100% pure New Hampshire maple 🍁 syrup made this a winner!
Delicious!
I made this a few times, and suggest the following.
1) mix all dry ingredients together first, then combine with the eggs
2) leave out the cinnamon (sprinkle it on after you make the toast). If you add to batter it sinks to bottom.
I recently used this recipe with banana extract. My kids loved it. It was the bomb! Thanks for sharing.
Tried this for my fella. N his friend (n obvz mislef) and got the BEST reports back!! So impressed! Fact, the husband says its his new weekend breakfast. Thanks you
Simple but delicious!! I used organic white bread and challah bread with the homemade syrup .. both turn out great!!
Batter seemed thin, I used 2%milk. But the toast came out good. Was out of vanilla so I used 1t. Orange zest. Next time will do with whole milk or cream.
I leave bread in freezer overnite, then it won’t tear when dipping it in th egg liquid. Can’t wait to try the flour.
I’m not a french toast lover like most, but after a few small tweaks, I am changed. My cooking is gourmet, technique is meticulous and I love reviving traditional cooking. I used organic heavy cream and 1/4 tsp whole grated nutmeg. For the bread I didn’t have brioche left, so I used english muffin bread. Italian flour, truffle sea salt, real vanilla, Irish butter and Vermont maple syrup really tipped the scales. I served it with a few slices of extra thick cut home smoked bacon and dusted the toast with more truffle salt to balance the sugar. Amazing.
Wow, that sounds amazing!
thanks
Best French toast I’ve had. I’ve never added flour before but I think it maybe what made the bread not soggy, which was great! Got 8 slices from the “batter”. My new go to french toast recipe!
Is it nutritional information for 2 slices or 1?
For 1 slice.
Really great recipei love it. I also toast mine prior to doing in mixture. It defiantly keeps the crispy toasted texture even after cooking. I like mine soft yet crunchy. 😍 🍞 ☕🍴🍶🍳
Really like this recipe. Turns out great every time.
The best French Toast I have ever made or eaten! My family loved it as well and said it was better than going out to the café for breakfast!
This is my go to French toast and I have it so often for breakfast! So so delicious!
Thank you from another adult man who also didn’t want to eat cereal. 😉
Thank you from an adult man wanting to eat something other than cereal. 😉
same, boomer.
Oh, how I love French Toast. Haven’t been able to enjoy it for ever so long because I’m diabetic and don’t want to upset the apple cart. Or whatever cart I’m in.
Anyway, I just want to give you a little hint as to how I make (er, rather made) mine quite a while back. The very first thing I did which made the toast not as soft and soggy was to actually toast it. Yup, I put it in my faithful old Sunbeam toaster (it’s from the 60’s and I love it) and toasted it just as if I were having toast for breakfast, brunch, or whatever meal I’m fixing.
Try it next time and tel me what you think.
Thanks much Linda for the idea of toasting the bread prior to dipping it in the egg mixture. I use Texas toast to make French toast and slightly toasting it prior to dipping it in the egg mixture gave me the results I was looking for. I really like Lauren’s recipe…Thanks Much Lauren…but toasting the bread prior to dipping it in the egg mixture seems to have taken it up a notch for me. I also add one additional ingredient to Lauren’s recipe. I put 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground Nutmeg in as well. Thanks once again to both Lauren and Linda.
I’m quick to judge, and critical.
This recipe is PERFECT. Great flavor, not soggy, and cooks wonderfully. Thank you!
I’m going to make French Toast later, and this recipe reminded me of the way my late Husband mad what was know as Daddy’s French Toast. Instead of adding flour he added Pancake Mix and quite a bit of vanilla. Very tasty. Thanks for the memory jog.
Best French toast ever.
Just finished up having this for lunch! Most tasty, will definitely be using this recipe again and again.
Thanks for posting it.
French Toast is one of my favorite foods and this one is a keeper. Thanks
Love french toast and love this easy recipe
Oh my gosh, this recipe turned out SO good. Sooo gooey and delicious and didn’t have that egg taste that most other recipes turn out to have. I wish I could insert a picture of it because WOW. If you have ever had the French toast from the Park Hyatt – it is more than comparable! The only thing I did differently was I used two egg whites and two eggs. This recipe is definitely worth a try.
Thanks Lexi!
the hubby loved the french toast.
Wow who would have known to add flour .I made myself this for breakfast and it’s definitely one the top french toast recipes I’ve eaten. Can’t wait to make this again for my teenage boys .I followed this recipe exact and I will be making this again and again … again.. Thank you for sharing 😋
Made this for myself & stepson for the first morning of summer. He said it was the best breakfast he’s ever had! It was amazing!
Amazing!!! It’s really delicious with Potato bread, especially Idaho brand Naked. I eat them basically plain.
This is definitely a keeper, tasted like Strawberry Crepes! I sliced and simmered strawberries in a little bit of butter and placed onto of french toast then syrup oh so delicious!!
I was in the mood for French toast and googled for a recipe. When I read that you prefer Sara Lee Artesano bread, I knew that was the recipe fir me because I had just purchased that very bread. It came out FANTASTIC (and I am not much of a cook)!
FOR me
Ps. I had a bit of batter and fried that up too! French pancakes?!?
Made homemade egg bread specifically for french toast and then used this recipe. It was the best french toast I’ve ever had!
That sounds incredible! Thanks for sharing!
I recently discovered a Delicious substitute for milk while making French toast for my grand-son. I used International Delights “Caramel Macchiato” coffee creamer. Was Superb. My 3yr. old granson ate 3 slices all up. Try using other flavors also.
Just made this recipe. It was amazing!!! Might have it again tomorrow morning ?
My son,(29) and my nephew, (27) loved this so much, I hardly got a taste. Will make more next time.
I love this recipe! I like the texture the floor adds to it. I use a brioche bread. I also used half and half instead of milk since I was out of milk and it was still delicious. And the best part is my husband, who is a picky eater, also loved it and asks me to make it now for our Sunday breakfast.
My family loves this recipe! I have it bookmarked on my computer so it’s easier to access. I used Texas Toast. It may take longer to cook but it’s worth it!
Looking for forward to making this.
I love the French Toast !! Was so impressive! And sooo delicious! Will definitely try again!!
thanks !!
Mixed dry ingredients first…..
Best eggs with rotary egg beater….
Combined and used chocolate chip French brioche from Aldi. Served with fresh berries and maple syrup…… and bacon.
The crowd roared!!
The kids loved them. Thanks!
I just tried this recipe after all the great reviews. We LOVED it and will pass the recipe on to other family members. I used the thick Artisan bread and it turned out perfect! Thanks so much for sharing…
This is the BEST French toast recipe I have ever tried! I used 1/2 and 1/2, it was so rich and delicious. I can’t beleive flour was in the recipe, but I could feel the difference. Soooo good! The only recipe I need now.
Thanks so much for sharing!
This recipe is easy and tasty. My boys and I are full of French toast and delightfully happy. Thank you.
Fantastic! Kids loved it! Used old hoagie bread. Couldn’t have turned out better.
I will be memorizing this one.
To make the French toast spectacular, dip it in some crushed cornflakes and then put it on the griddle. Wow!
In all honesty, I didn’t expect much. The recipe calls for flour in the egg soak, and I figured the slightly thicker batter would clump on to of the bread rather than soak in. Well, it does just a little bit, but once you let the bread really soak a bit, this makes an AWESOME French toast! Make sure there is plenty of butter on the griddle, and let the French toast brown well. I used diagonal sliced stale French bolillo rolls, which gave a nice texture and interesting shapes, but otherwise, I made the recipe as posted. I will definitely use this recipe again.
Thanks so much Tom!
This recipe was YUM! I used Swerve in place of the sugar and almond flour instead of all-purpose, and it still turned out great! Thank you for sharing.
Delicious recipe! I added a couple of dashes of pumpkin pie spices as well.
Absolutely delicious! I never would have thought to add flour to the mix, but it makes it perfect! =)
I made this recipe with wheat bread and used two percent milk. Delicious! Also halved the recipe, still enough for five pieces of bread.
I’ve never made French toast with flour and sugar so I tried this recipe with less amounts.. I also substituted some salted caramel flavored whiskey instead of vanilla. The best we ever had. Really. So glad I saw this recipe.
Best French toast recipe I’ve tried so far!
Am about to try your recipe. One BIG change I’m going to make is using pure maple syrup, not that pretend stuff. If the french toast turns out even half as good as you claim, why ruin it with corn syrup! LOL
Easily the best French toast I’ve ever made (or had for that matter). Pretty much the same recipe as 1 from Martha Stewart EXCEPT the addition of flour which sure seemed to make a world of difference in the final outcome. Whereas the Martha Stewart recipe usually came out very soggy on the inside & we had to sort of choke it down, this was done all the way through, fluffed up the bread a bit & stayed crispier. My youngest son, who doesn’t like syrups or jellies of any kind, absolutely loved this. As skinny as he is, he loves his breakfasts & I thought he might eat all the slices before everyone came down for breakfast!
Great recipe! Quick to make, but looks and tastes delicious!
Stuck to the cookie sheet… Couldn’t flip. Won’t bake again. Stove topmost best for me!
Hi Angela,
I definitely wouldn’t recommend using a cookie sheet for French toast. It would be best to use an electric griddle or a skillet pan over the stove!
Perfect recipe!!! Thanks just tried this morning !!! Kids loved it n hubby ate it all ???
I helped my son make this amazing French toast this morning. He has a mild case of autism and is learning to cook. He was so proud of himself, and we were proud for him.
Thank you for sharing–what a great skill to develop! I’m so happy you enjoyed it 🙂
My husband loved this! I added a bit more vanilla than the recipe called for but it was still yummy. I also used fresh baked white bread from my local bakery and used my blender to avoid clumps. This will be my go to recipe for French toast!
I bet it was divine on the bakery bread! Im so glad you liked it.
Delicious restaurant quality my son and husband and myself loved it.
My granddaughter and I tried this for breakfast and we were shocked at how good it was!!! We would definitely recommend this recipe.
Great recipe
Absolutely delicious! The only recipe I’ll use from now on!
Awesome recipe!!! My husband loves it!
Made this tonight and it was delicious.
This recipe is definitely a keeper! I give it 5 stars…
Cathy
Made this for dinner tonight and it is outstanding! I could never make good french toast until I tried this recipe!!
I give it 5 stars!!
This is the only way my family has made French Toast our entire lives! To help with the clumping issue of the flour, I only use Wondra flour in the round canister. To make sure the cinnamon gets on every slice, shake it on each piece after the egg wash mixture – before you put it on the griddle.
Wow. Looks yum. Lauren inspires me to be the best I can be. This french toast gives me strength to get through the day. Wish I would give it a 10/5. Thank you Lauren. Fighting!
very easy to make. tastes amazing.
Try adding 1/4 cup Triple Sec and 1 tablespoon Orange Zest for an “orange” taste that’s a bit different than “normal” French toast
Mark
Can you make the batter the night before and refrigerate it until morning? My daughter loves french toast so trying to adapt for school mornings when we’re in a rush. Thanks!
I think that would work just fine! You can also freeze leftovers to reheat on busy mornings 🙂
I triple the recipe (and add the zest of 2 oranges) and it is the perfect amount of batter for 2 loaves of Texas toast. I like to make this in bulk so I can freeze the leftovers and reheat them in the toaster so I have quick breakfast options for my hubby and little girl through the busy work week.
I also prefer to use older bread because I think it absorbs the batter better and doesn’t get soggy like fresh bread can. If I’m using a brand new loaf I spread the slices on my oven rack and leave them in there at 200° while I put the batter together. Works like a charm. This is my favorite French Toast recipe, I made it for a big family breakfast today and got rave reviews.
Do you think that it’s possible to make this and then freeze it?
I have never tried this. Good luck.
Love this recipe! So easy and delicious.
I tried this one and loved it! <3 thank you for this recipe!
Amazing!!!!!
Thanks Lynn, I’m happy you liked the french toast!
Delicious! Totally takes French toast up a notch, but it is super easy!!
Half way through making I realized I didn’t have enough sugar, and was out of vanilla. So I did half sugar, half brown sugar, and almond extract instead of vanilla and that gave it a great flavor. Thanks for the recipe!
Love those adaptions! So happy it turned out great!
I saw your FB video and figured we needed to try this since we love french toast. Mira made this for breakfast! The added flour and sugar make it a delicious treat different from normal french toast.
The best French toast I have ever had!
Great recipe- it was delicious. I made some this morning for myself- scaled it down to a single serving. All day the kitchen and nook had a lovely aroma. Thank you for sharing!
This is our new go-to weekend breakfast recipe! We weren’t French toast lovers before – and now we are. Thank you!
I just made this! And love it.. so easy to make. Soft n fluffy French toasts.
Thank you
I love this recipe! I had the same problem with the flower clumping but it really doesn’t matter in the end. I made it with sourdough bread and it turned out amazing!
Can challah bread be used. It’s all I have on hand.
That should work great!
K sheesh
I used challah and it was delicious! Also put it in a blender very smooth batter Thanks for the recipe! ?
This is the first time I made this receipe. I used challah bread. I substituted brown sugar for white sugar and used heavy cream in place of milk. It turned out wonderful.
This is very similar to another recipe that I have. A tip for those who haven’t used a recipe with flour: try mixing all dry ingredients together and separately mixing all the wet ingredients. Then slowly add the two together, whisking very well the whole time. It will get rid of any clumping and make it much smoother.
yes Emma I agree if you mix all the dry ingredients together the flour won’t clump and the cinnamon mixes in better
This is how I have made french toast for years!!!!
Perfect! Was enough for 10 slices of Texas Toast. Flour made it slightly clumpy, but couldn’t be tasted once cooked. My son loves his french toast and he approved of this recipe 🙂 Will definitely use again next time!
Love this recipie. Easy and tasty. Had some clumping issues, but did not affect taste!!
Made this spontaneously today and we loved it! The Little Miss had 2 toasts! Glad I stumbled upon it, thank you Lauren for sharing 🙂
buy a small container of real French vanilla ice cream, 1/2 to 1 pint.. let the ice cream melt and use it in place of the mixture…
I like to substitute a little coffee creamer for the milk, especially now in the fall, using Pumpkin Spice creamer! So yummy! The Cinnabun creamer is also a great one all year.
I was skeptical of the flour, even more so when the batter turned clumpy. I pulled out my Emerson blender to get it nice and smooth. Turned out to be the best french toast I have ever made.
My daughter has just discovered that she loves french toast, so I really need to start making it. I’ve never used a “recipe” and so far she doesn’t like the way I make it. I’ll have to try this – it looks really yummy!
This recipe is awesome. I had my 14 year old daughter that I’m trying to inspire her into the kitchen to make it and she did great. She was so proud of herself. Thank you
Love this recipe!
