So, I’m a big nerd when it comes to grocery shopping. When we lived in Utah I shopped at Buy Lowe on Wednesdays for their produce sales, Winco for their bulk bins,, Maceys for meats because they were always the cheapest, and Costco for things like toilet paper, bread, eggs, and cheese, that are cheaper to buy in bulk! Finding the best deals on groceries was something I took seriously!
Then I moved to St. Louis and was totally out of my element! All of the stores were new and different and I had to do some research to find the best places to shop for groceries!
Then my life basically changed (I’m dramatic I know 🙂 ) when I found out about the app called Favado. Please tell me you’ve heard about it too?! If not, you seriously need to download it, now!! It’s a FREE app, (SIGN UP HERE) and it compares the local grocery stores of your choice to help you find the best deals!
When I open my app I just pick a category–like produce, meats, baby stuff, personal care, etc– and VIOLA! It shows me the best deals in that category! Awesome right? It saves me soo much time and money! And even if I’m not looking for any specific items it will list the top deals going on at the stores I’m interested in.
AND, (pay attenion you couponers!) Favado automatically attaches coupons to items that have them available! So not only will it show you where the best deals are, it will give you the coupon to use! How awesome is that?
This app has totally reinvented the way I shop! When I decided I wanted to make these amazing BBQ Chicken Drumsticks, I just pulled open Favado to “hack” my recipe. First, I searched the “Meat and Poultry” category at a few local grocery stores, and here’s what I found:
Chicken drumsticks were only $.99 cents/pound at Save a lot! Score! Then I used Favado’s search tool to quickly look up the other ingredients in my recipe — I found ketchup and soy sauce on sale from the same store–both ingredients that I needed for this recipe!
I ended up paying a whopping $2.50 for a package of 7 big chicken drumsticks! All together this meal cost me well under $5! I LOVE using Favado to hack my recipes and find the best deals–which saves me time and money!
These drumsticks were one of my favorite summer meals growing up! They first cook in an easy homemade BBQ sauce, soaking up all that yummy flavor, and then they’re charred on a hot grill for a few minutes! They are TASTY, and so incredibly easy!
- 1 (15oz) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup of soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp white vinegar
- 1 tsp mustard
- 8-12 large chicken drumsticks , washed and pat dry
Add all ingredients, besides the chicken, to a large pot over medium-high heat. Stir well to combine. Bring mixture to a gently boil, then add the raw chicken drumsticks. Turn heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for about 20-30 minutes. Remove chicken to a plate and ladle some of the sauce into a cup.
Prepare your grill by oiling it well and bringing it to high heat. Once grill is hot, add chicken drumsticks. The chicken is cooked at this point, you're just wanting to char the skin a bit. Lather some of the extra BBQ Sauce on the chicken as you grill it. Rotate chicken until all sides are charred. If your grill is hot enough, this should only take a few minutes!
