This easy homemade Teriyaki Sauce recipe only takes 10 minutes with basic pantry ingredients! It's flavorful and absolutely delicious!

A homemade Teriyaki Sauce recipe in a bowl with a spoon scooping some up.

Take 10-minutes to make the best homemade Teriyaki Sauce.

This teriyaki sauce is an absolute staple in my fridge. I use it to marinate salmon and Teriyaki Chicken, or our favorite Hawaiian Bowls, or Teriyaki Pasta salad. Anything you'd use store-bought teriyaki sauce for, this homemade teriyaki sauce is better! Store-bought sauces have dozens of weird ingredients and preservatives you can't even pronounce, and this homemade version has real, simple ingredients you always have on hand. Plus we know by now that homemade tastes better and is less expensive, too. 🙂

If you wanna really up your homemade sauce game, try our BBQ Sauce, Ketchup, Salsa, Ranch Dressing or Enchilada Sauce!

Equipment

  • saucepan

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a saucepan over medium heat.
½ cup low-sodium soy sauce, 2 Tablespoons rice vinegar, 1 Tablespoon sesame oil, ¼ cup + 1 Tablespoon light brown sugar, 1 Tablespoon honey, ¾ teaspoon ground ginger, 1 clove garlic, 2 teaspoons cornstarch+ 2 tsp water, ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

  • Store teriyaki sauce in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.
  • Ideas for using Teriyaki Sauce:
    Teriyaki Chicken
    Teriyaki Salmon Bowl
    Hawaiian Bowls
Burgers: Smothered over a Hamburger, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, or Turkey Burger, with add a ring of pineapple and and extra teriyaki sauce.

Notes

Teriyaki Sauce Marinade: I love to use this as a marinade! Just pour ¼ cup over raw chicken, steak or fish and let it marinate for 30 minutes or more.
Healthy Teriyaki Sauce: Decrease the sugar, to taste.
No Cornstarch: Use flour for a 1:1 ratio substitute.
Gluten-free: Make sure to use gluten-free soy sauce or tamari.
Vegan: Omit or swap for agave.
Freezing Instructions: Freeze in a freezer safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw completely in the refrigerator before using.

This recipe is amazing. I made this sauce for teriyaki chicken last night and there were no leftovers. I accidentally added a little more soy than the recipe by mistake, but it still tasted great. I love teriyaki and cannot wait to make it again. It is quick, easy, and delicious! Thank you!

I made this for Teriyaki Meatballs because I forgot to pick up sauce at the store. It was so easy and it tastes great. I only put in a sprinkle of red pepper flakes because of kids, but otherwise followed the recipe. It’s a keeper.

I’m officially calling this ‘quick-draw teriyaki sauce’, as literal start to finish was 5 minutes flat! I left out the honey (didn’t want it super sweet) and the pepper flakes (5 y/o in the house) and it was so, so delicious. We just drizzled it over plain white rice with some sesame seed garnish for a quick, lazy Saturday dinner. Thank you for the fastest sauce in the West!

Never commented on a recipe before but this sauce was amazing. Put it on some chicken wings and came out fantastic. Will definitely make again and put it over rice.
