Strawberries and Cream (Fresas con Crema) is a traditional Mexican dessert recipe made with la lechera (sweetened condensed milk), whipping cream, sour cream, and strawberries.

This is one of my favorite healthier dessert recipe that’s super easy to make and I usually have the ingredients for! If you like sweet Mexican food, you’ll love my Tres Leches Cake and Mexican Horchata!

Strawberries and Cream

It’s the time of year for no-bake desserts and this simple Strawberries and Cream recipe (called fresas con crema in Mexico, where it originated) is just the type of light, healthier dessert I crave all summer long! Sometimes it’s the most simple treats that are the most delicious, am I right? I’m talking fresh peaches and ice cream, rice krispie treats,  and of course this deliciously simple strawberries and cream.

My first experience with fresas con crema (as they call this dessert in Mexico), was when my husband and I lived in Puebla, Mexico for a few months when we were first married. I immediately loved it and set out to learn what was in it!

What is fresas con crema?

Fresas con crema (or Strawberries and cream) is a popular Mexican dessert that uses 6 simple ingredients and takes just a few minutes to throw together.

The cream sauce is made by combining sour cream (or substitute plain Greek yogurt) with evaporated milk, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. The sauce is poured over fresh strawberries and served in a cup, with a spoon.

You could even use frozen strawberries if you’d like, and we like to add a dollop of whipped cream or easy whip on top!

La Lechera is most commonly used in Mexico to make this recipe, but you can use any brand of sweetened condensed milk. It’s a light and refreshing dessert that can also be enjoyed as a quick snack.

Ingredients for making Fresas con crema including containers of sour cream, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, whipping cream, a bowl of sliced strawberries and vanilla extract.

How to make Strawberries and Cream:

  • Slice the strawberries into thin slices.
  • Add the sour cream, evaporated milk, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla to a mixing bowl.
  • Beat with electric mixers for 2 minutes.
  • Spoon ½ cup of fresh sliced strawberries into a cup. Pour ½ cup of the cream mixture over the top.
  • Serve with whipped cream on top, if desired.

Is Fresas con Crema made with la lechera?

Any brand of sweetened condensed milk will work for this recipe, including La lechera sweetened condensed milk.  It’s popular in Latin America to use the la lechera brand, though any brand will work.

I made this recently and added a slice of French Vanilla cake slice as the first layer, with the cream and strawberries. It was delicious.

I have been craving fresas con crema and was a little bit sketchy on making this recipe but it actually came out pretty good! The amount I would spend on one cup was almost the same amount for all of the items I bought from my local grocery store. Definitely will continue to make this recipe. It was very delicious!

Hi Mrs. Lauran, I’m an eleven-year-old girl and when I’m old enough to use the oven, I’m going to make this.
I am a Mexican, and I love Mexican food, have you made a pozole recipe?? I’m going to check, but if you haven’t, you should totally make one!!😁😊
If I could give you a prize, it would be 50,000,000$. Unfortunately, I don’t have that much money.

    1. Me and the lady said the exact same thing. Maybe less heavy cream next time? Overall the taste was there though!
