The best Cheese Ball recipe has plenty of cheddar cheese, green onions, and seasonings mixed with cream cheese. It's coated in chopped pecans and served with crackers, pretzels, or veggies.

This Cheeseball is the MVP of Easy Appetizers
I can't think of a more classic appetizer for the holidays than this cheeseball recipe. I love how I can prep it up to a week in advance and just pull it out of the fridge and plate it when it's ready to serve. Ignore the bland, flavorless cheese balls in the grocery store–this one is PACKED full of flavor from the cheese, Worcestershire, spices, and a little hot sauce. I have even gifted cheeseballs as neighbor holiday gifts, and I love making mini cheese ball bites for a big holiday appetizer spread.

How to make a Homemade Cheese Ball:
Combine: Beat cream cheese until smooth then incorporate remaining ingredients. High quality ingredients make a high quality cheese ball, so make sure to buy a block of cheese and grate it yourself instead of using pre-shredded cheese. Use a spatula to form the cheese mixture into a ball. Spray your hands with non-stick cooking spray as needed so it doesn't stick.

Cover in Nuts: Use whatever nuts you like best, but make sure they are chopped finely. While holding the cheese ball in one hand, use your other hand to gently scoop and press the chopped nuts on all the way around the ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
Serve: Arrange cheese ball on a platter surrounded by crackers, vegetables, pretzels, or pita bread. Make sure you have a cheese spreading knife! If you use a cracker straight into it, it will break into pieces!

Chose this recipe based on the 2630 positive votes. While it was certainly easy to make, this cheese ball was disappointing in that it was really quite bland in flavor. Sorry, but I wouldn’t recommend.
Classic Cheeseball ~ this recipe is just simple. I formed mine into a Snowman. It was perfect for our get Dominoes get together.
I coved mine with chopped Walnuts.
*If and when I make it again I’m adding bacon bits. One of the members can’t eat pork so I wanted to be sure she could indulge as well. I used Tabasco sauce ~ I think I’ll use Cayenne Pepper next time. And Paprika!
*I made it the same day as our Dominoes game. There are only six of us and we barely made a dent. I feel it tastes better two days later when all the ingredients melled together.
I’d send a photo if I could ~ I don’t see an option. It was really cute!
What is a serving size? I am taking this to a gathering of 90 people and I would like to figure out the serving size to know if I have made enough of these balls.
The recipe makes 24 servings.
Could I use cayenne instead of hot sauce? About how much would I need please?
Yes! Use 1/4 teaspoon cayenne to replace the 1 teaspoon hot sauce. Start with 1/8 teaspoon if you’re heat-sensitive—cayenne is much more concentrated than hot sauce. You can always taste and add a pinch more!
I made this cheese ball last week for company and everyone loved it. It’s easy and very tasty.
What can I use instead of nuts?
Cranberries or green onions work great!
Amazing. Best part is how easy it was to make. Took it to a Thanksgiving gathering this weekend and everyone raved about it. Only change I made to the recipe was substituting pecans for walnuts because that’s what I had on hand. Also cut the recipe in half after reading how big of a cheese ball the original made. Half size was more than big enough. Used a nice 4 year old cheddar which definitely upped the flavour and regular Cholula for the hot sauce. Will make another one for a family gathering next weekend.
Excellent cheese ball. Didn’t change a thing!
A true classic. I can almost taste it through the screen!
Looks delicious and will try it out for Superbowl Sunday. Has anyone tried shaping it like a football and coating it with mini pepperonis?
I made this for super bowl a few years ago and I successfully shaped it into a football (through much patience) and coated in pecans and did the football stripes with sliced cheese. I haven’t tried with mini pepperonis but they would probably have to be individually placed lol.
