Our classic Apple Crisp recipe is the best dessert of fall! It has tender cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery, golden oat crumble.

The Best Apple Crisp You'll Ever Make

This apple crisp recipe could be my most treasured dessert recipe I make from September through the entire winter season–I will never get tired of it!
Mostly it's such an easy dessert that gives apple pie vibes but without the time commitment. It's definitely the biggest crowd pleaser, especially when I serve it with my homemade vanilla ice cream!
The secret to a perfect apple crisp is using a mix of apple varieties. Granny Smith apples hold their shape and add tartness, while Honeycrisp or Fuji apples add natural sweetness. If you don't have a Johnny Apple Peeler yet, buy one (it peels, cores and slices the apples for you–making this dessert come together so FAST!)!

How to make Apple Crisp:
Crumble Toppings: In a medium size bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and baking powder. Add butter and cut in with a pastry blender or fork until well combined. Refrigerate crumble while you prepare the apple filling.
Apple Filling: (I use a Johnny Apple Peeler to peel, core and slice the apples all at once.) In a small bowl, stir together melted butter and flour until smooth. Add lemon juice, milk and vanilla then stir. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour butter mixture over apples and toss to coat.
Bake: Pour apple mixture into an 8×8-inch baking dish and spread into an even layer. Sprinkle crumble topping evenly over the apples. Bake for about 35 minutes or until golden brown and top is set. Remove from oven and cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Serve with homemade vanilla ice cream and homemade caramel sauce, if desired.

Holy Moly!!!! Amazing! and the Caramel Sauce????? I want to eat it with a spoon!!! My husband and I have eaten Keto for 4 years – so when we splurge – we want the best and THIS IS IT!
Very good recipe! Will definitely add to my meal plans!
I’ve been making apple crisp for my husband for years. This is the best recipe ever! Thank you!
This recipe is good, but the butter to flour/sugar ratio seemed way off. I had to add an additional 1/4cup butter melted over top, because the mixture was powdery and not cooking properly.
I am going to use this recipe for a food lab with high school students! For the nutrition information, is that per serving or is that for the whole dish? It says Fat twice, one saturated and the other just “fat”. Can you please clarify that? Thanks so much!
Hey Lyndsay! So excited you’re using this for food lab! The nutritional info is per serving. The ‘fat’ listed refers to total fat, while ‘saturated fat’ is a specific type of fat included in that total. I hope that helps clarify—good luck with your food lab!
Excellent Recipes! Thank you!
I just made this and it is absolutely delicious!! Tripled the recipe as we are taking a large dish to a neighborhood party, then having company the next day. I looked through many online recipes, but this one was different from the rest. I used a combo of Cosmic Crisp, Granny Smith and Golden Delicious apples. Try this recipe, you won’t be sorry!
This is the best apple crisp I’ve ever had. The title is correct! I cooked mine for 44min. We like our apple very soft.
It was very good!
The new family fav! I have a church picnic coming. If I double the recipe will I need to adjust the time and temp any?
Not sure if you made this as a double batch already but definitely keep the temperature the same and you might need to bake longer Maybe 5-10 mins. Don’t be afraid to lower the oven temp to 350 degrees F if the topping is browning too fast (you could also lightly tent with foil) but know you may need to bake longer. You’ll know it’s done when you insert a sharp knife into the center and the apples are soft. Do note that some varieties of apples will stay firm when baked.
This is the best Apple crisp ever. Everyone who has ever tasted it raves about it.
