This old fashioned Peach Cobbler recipe is not only extremely easy to make from scratch, but it's made with fresh or canned peaches so you can enjoy it all year round! It's one of my favorite family recipes from my mom, and although I am bias, I think it's the best of the best!

Peach Cobbler

Peach season is pretty much the best time of the year, am I right?! I love going to “pick your own” farms or buying a large box from a local vendor. Peaches are one of those things I could never get sick of! I have too many favorite peach recipes that I rotate through them each season, starting with my favorite homemade Peach freezer jam.

This peach cobbler recipe comes from my mom, and it is a family favorite recipe she made for us all the time growing up! The best part about it is that it literally takes 5 minutes to throw together! My mom often used a quart jar of homemade canned peaches, but you can also use fresh peaches!

How to easily peel peaches:

I've found the easiest way to peel peaches is to gently lower 2-3 peaches at a time into a pot of boiling water. Leave them in the water for about 30 seconds, and then remove them to an ice-water bath. The ice water bath will shock them and keep the peach flesh from cooking, but the peach skin will be so easy to peel that you wont even need a knife!

How to make Peach Cobbler:
  • Add the sliced peaches, sugar and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. Cook on medium heat for just a few minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and helped to bring out some juice from the peaches. Remove from heat and set aside.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Slice butter into pieces and add to a 9×13 inch baking dish. Place the pan in the oven while it preheats, to allow the butter to melt. Once melted, remove the pan from the oven.
  • In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, just until combined. Pour the mixture into the pan, over the melted butter and smooth it into an even layer.

Process photos for making peach cobbler, including melting butter in a 9x13 inch pan, pouring batter on top, and then sliced peaches and juice on top of the batter.

  • Spoon the peaches and juice (or canned peaches, if using) over the batter. Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. Serve warm, with a scoop of ice cream, if desired.

How to store and reheat peach cobbler:

Peach cobbler is best enjoyed warm, right after it's baked. Store leftover cobbler covered, in the fridge for 4-5 days.

To reheat peach cobbler, use the microwave or oven. To reheat in the oven, remove it from the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 20 minutes or until warmed through. (Place tinfoil over it if it's browning too much).

Tell me this isn't the epitome of comfort food desserts?! A bowl of warm peach cobbler served with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream on top is seriously my idea of heaven.

Delicious! I had a jar of peach halves from Bulgaria and thought I would use them for this Cobbler recipe, and I was not disappointed!
After weighing out the required amount and slicing the peach halves into wedges, the recipe came together in a flash!
I took it for a friend’s supper invitation and it was devoured! As an accompaniment, I also took along Vanilla Honey ice cream. Chef’s Kiss to the result!
Thanks to you, Lauren, and to your Mum for sharing your cherished family recipe! It will now be on our family fabourites rotation!

Hands down the best cobbler EVER. Each time I’ve made it. I’ve added either blueberries, or blueberries and cherries. I also add a touch of cinnamon to the fruit along with a teaspoon or so of lime juice to cut the sweetness just a tad and it’s been amazing each time.

OMG. Best peach cobbler I have ever made and ever made. My husband loved it. I took the shortcut and made it with canned peaches, but it was incredible. Thank you for sharing. This is my new go-to, and will be sharing this recipe with my grandchildren in 30 years like I came up with it myself. 🙂 Thank you!

If I could rate it 0 stars I would! I wish I read some of the comments first. This is a horrible recipe! I followed it exactly. It turned into gooey peach slop with half the batter uncooked and the peaches sitting nearly burnt on top. Additional baking time did not help! I left it overnight to see if the dessert fairies will come sprinkle it with deliciousness like the elves and the shoemaker but I suspect it won’t be salvageable. What a waste of delicious peaches! I agree with the others; do jot make this! Either the final product picture is a a different recipe or fake. Seems like the “good” comments are fake.

Well, even the elves have their off days! Perhaps the dessert fairies were distracted by a fruit tart rebellion. Hang tight, I’ll confer with them and see if we can’t stage a better peach cobbler coup next time!

Well, I am certainly not a fake commentator, an elf, a fairy, or any other magical being but I just made it and it was fantastic (10 stars says my son). Did you make sure your baking powder was not expired? Did you add the correct amount of salt? DId you weigh out your ingredients and NOT just scoop them out of the bag (which packs the ingredients and throws off the actual amount)? Conversions for cups, tablespoons, and teaspoons to grams for nearly any ingredient you can think of is available online these days…it’s almost like magic! Sorry to hear about your lost peaches, but there could be any number of reasons your cobbler didn’t come together, but the problem is NOT the recipe..I am an independent person and novice baker that came across this recipe searching online for something to make with all the peaches my kid picked at a local orchard on a day camp field trip.

I have been making this exact recipe for over 40 years and cannot imagine how that happened. It has NEVER done that to me. The recipe is great. I’m wondering if you didn’t strain enough of the peach juice out of your peaches. That would definitely cause your problem.

Not everyone is capable of following directions. Maybe reread the directions and try again?

Delicious and easy. I added some vanilla to the peaches. It cooked a bit faster in my oven (30 min).

This is my first attempt at making peach cobbler and I’m so glad I found this recipe. I used 8 fresh peaches that I had on hand. I added extra vanilla and cinnamon to them, alone they were delicious! I prepped them a day before to cut down on my tasks today. I added my cinnamon in my batter and used 1/2 the salt the recipe called for. The cobbler was perfection

I used necatarines with the skin on. Added a bit of water when softening them in the saucepan. It rose A LOT. A bit of dough Glooped over the sides of the pan, so put a baking sheet underneath. Was not the prettiest cobbler in the world, but tasted REALLY delicious. Will omit the salt next time. Not needed. I did use salted butter however.

Made this tonight for Father’s Day dessert. I substituted coconut oil for the butter and coconut milk for the milk because my husband has a dairy allergy. Everyone loved it. We will be using this recipe in the future.

This recipe worked out great! Everybody loved it! I kept the skin on the peaches because even after a few days of sitting in the fruit bowl, they were not ripe, and I did the boiling water/ice method, but could not get the skin off easily. I went to the next step of slicing and cooking the slices with sugar in the sauce pan. I followed the recipe and it was fantastic, because the baking helped cook the unripe peaches into soft deliciousness!

Can one use other fruit, such as apples, with this recipe? Also, am I likely to be driven into exile if I were to use oil instead of butter?
