Why I love these cupcakes:

  • Festive – These Valentine's Day Cupcakes are so fun to make! Grab a bag of marbles from the dollars store and whip these up in no time! Let your kids help!
  • Delicious – What's not to love about a moist cupcake with cream cheese frosting? These will capture the heart of everyone you give them to.
  • Fun – I love making this Valentine Cupcakes recipe on Valentine's Day. They're a fun and easy activity for the family or kids. Use different colors of frosting and fun valentine sprinkles.

How to make Heart Cupcakes:

Make Cupcake Batter: Make cupcakes according to recipe directions. You can doctor-up a cake mix by using milk instead of water and adding one extra egg to the batter, or use my homemade chocolate cupcake recipe! Fill cupcake liners in a muffin tin ½ full (be careful to not overfill)

A standard muffin pan with liners, each filled ½ full with chocolate cupcake batter.

Place Marble: After filling the liners, place a marble between the liner and the pan. You will see the cupcake take the shape of a heart!

Muffin liners filled with chocolate cupcake batter and a marble placed between the pan and the liner of each cupcake to make a heart shape.

Bake cupcakes according to recipe directions. Allow to cool completely before frosting.

Marbles are now hard to find. Maybe because of a safety issue. The $ store did not have them, but Hobby Lobby did, near the check outs.

Wouldn’t a paper clip opened up to form a V shape work better? I was going to bake cupcakes today anyhow, now I have to try it. LOL

And, if u work fast, u can drop the marble in ice water and make a “crackle” marble! I haven’t done it myself, so Google or Pinterest instructions, but it’s easy enough! Fun! I may try it w the pink or red heart shape magnets from Dollar Tree!

I have tried these and have found that any filled over 1/2 full lose their shape. Just a warning…I’m sure it depends on the depth of your cupcake pans 🙂

These are so cute! May be a silly question but do I remove the marbles before baking?

Will the marble break or burst in the oven?
