Why I love this bread:

  • Applesauce – The applesauce is really the star of the show, so make sure to choose a good brand of unsweetened applesauce, or make my easy Homemade Applesauce or Instant Pot Applesauce!
  • Unique – Everyone’s familiar with banana bread but this bread is fun and different and so tasty!
  • Healthier – Made with unsweetened applesauce, greek yogurt, and some whole wheat flour, you can feel good about indulging in this tasty bread!

How to make Applesauce Bread:

Prep Loaf Pans: Line bottom of a 8.5 x 4.5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper (to prevent bread from sticking to the bottom of pan). Lightly grease insides of pan with cooking spray.

Whisk together oil, granulated sugar and brown sugar. Add eggs, whisking until smooth. Add applesauce, vanilla, and Greek yogurt. Mix until well-combined.

Combine flours, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and stir with wet ingredients until just combined–don’t over-mix.

Bake: Pour batter into loaf pan and spread into an even layer. Bake at 350ºF for 45-55 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean with just moist crumbs. Remove from oven. Run a knife gently around the side of the pan and then remove bread onto a cooling rack. Enjoy!

I don’t bake often, other than pizza dough, but I had a jar of applesauce I wanted to use up so I tried this. It was a smashing success in my house. The loaf lasted all of two days. Easy and yummy. Thanks!

Made this bread last night and it’s delish!! I only used all purpose flour since i did not have any whole wheat flour. But other than that followed the recipe to a T and it came out just delightful! 🙂 Thanks for the great recipe. Will definitely will be making again!

    Hi Lauren,
I made this recipe first before the Lemon Zucchini, and it is just as Delicious.
How ever being totally dairy free, and have to be gluten free, I changed a few things.
I only used only 3/4 cup of sugar, 2 egg whites, and I used soy yogurt. And 1 3/4 cup of 1 to 1 flour.
I am so very grateful that you have provided this wonderful bread!

  5. Hi Lauren
In this recipe can I used I cup apples, peeled, cored and chopped instead unsweetened apple sauce?
    Thanks for sharing!!

    1. Hi Fanny, for this recipe the applesauce is really important to add moisture to the cake. You could do chopped apples but I the cake will loose some of that moist taste and texture.

Help, please I’m in the middle of making this and I don’t have whole wheat flour, can I use all purpose flour instead, please help. Thanks!!

  7. I’m looking for something different for making French Toast (instead of a typical white french bread) Is this bread crumbly or do you think it would work?

    1. I think it would work if you’re gentle with it. It’s sturdy enough but I would use a spatula (rather then your hands, or a fork) to dunk it into the egg mixture.

  8. I have made this bread several times. It’s excellent; have given as gifts and always get rave feedback. Thanks for sharing.

  9. I made this as muffins and my picky little boys gobbled them up like crazy..and I may have joined them..so delish!!!

  10. This bread looks unbelievably moist and tasty! I would love this for breakfast with a cup of coffee:)
