This old fashioned Peach Cobbler recipe is not only extremely easy to make from scratch, but it’s made with fresh or canned peaches so you can enjoy it all year round! It’s one of my favorite family recipes from my mom, and although I am bias, I think it’s the best of the best!

Peach Cobbler

Peach season is pretty much the best time of the year, am I right?! I love going to “pick your own” farms or buying a large box from a local vendor. Peaches are one of those things I could never get sick of! I have too many favorite peach recipes that I rotate through them each season, starting with my favorite homemade Peach freezer jam.

This peach cobbler recipe comes from my mom, and it is a family favorite recipe she made for us all the time growing up! The best part about it is that it literally takes 5 minutes to throw together! My mom often used a quart jar of homemade canned peaches, but you can also use fresh peaches!

How to easily peel peaches:

I’ve found the easiest way to peel peaches is to gently lower 2-3 peaches at a time into a pot of boiling water. Leave them in the water for about 30 seconds, and then remove them to an ice-water bath. The ice water bath will shock them and keep the peach flesh from cooking, but the peach skin will be so easy to peel that you wont even need a knife!

How to make Peach Cobbler:
  • Add the sliced peaches, sugar and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. Cook on medium heat for just a few minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and helped to bring out some juice from the peaches. Remove from heat and set aside.

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Slice butter into pieces and add to a 9×13 inch baking dish. Place the pan in the oven while it preheats, to allow the butter to melt. Once melted, remove the pan from the oven.
  • In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, just until combined. Pour the mixture into the pan, over the melted butter and smooth it into an even layer.

  • Spoon the peaches and juice (or canned peaches, if using) over the batter. Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. Serve warm, with a scoop of ice cream, if desired.

How to store and reheat peach cobbler:

Peach cobbler is best enjoyed warm, right after it’s baked. Store leftover cobbler covered, in the fridge for 4-5 days.

To reheat peach cobbler, use the microwave or oven. To reheat in the oven, remove it from the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 20 minutes or until warmed through. (Place tinfoil over it if it’s browning too much).

  • 5 peaches , peeled, cored and sliced (about 4 cups)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the batter:

  • 6 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • ground cinnamon


  • Add the sliced peaches, sugar and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine. 

    *(If using canned peaches, skip steps 1 & 2 and follow the directions starting at step 3) 
  • Cook on medium heat for just a few minutes, until the sugar is dissolved and helps to bring out juices from the peaches. Remove from heat and set aside. 
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Slice butter into pieces and add to a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place the pan in the oven while it preheats, to allow the butter to melt. Once melted, remove the pan from the oven.
  • In a large bowl mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk, just until combined. Pour the mixture into the pan, over the melted butter and smooth it into an even layer. 
  • Spoon the peaches and juice (or canned peaches, if using) over the batter. Sprinkle cinnamon generously over the top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for about 38-40 minutes. Serve warm, with a scoop of ice cream, if desired.


To substitute canned peaches, use 1 quart jar, undrained.

  7. I love this recipe. Easy and delicious. I have made it about six times since June of last summer. I froze fresh peaches from Georgia in 4 cups each in plastic bags. Everyone who ate it loved it. However we are away from home and renting a villa for a month. I went to make this recipe for Fathers Day Saturday and discovered I had no baking powder. I promised it to the family so made it anyway. The dough was very different and did not rise at all. My grandson thought it was delicious so I said nothing. But I knew! It was edible but not good. When I get home I’ll freeze 6 more bags of peaches while they are still in season. BTW the peeling of peaches trick mentioned works like a charm! Thanks Lauren. (From an 82 year old cook!)

    I loved this! It’s easy and delicious. It is a little on the super sweet side, so I think cutting back on the sugar wouldn’t hurt. I might cut adding sugar to the peaches while they cook all together. Other than that it’s perfect.

    I’ve many peach cobblers over the last 40 years and this one is by far the most easiest and best tasting recipes I’ve ever made. The only thing about the recipe is that it took 50 minutes to bake. I had to cover the edges with aluminum foil for the last 10 minutes. Other than that I rate this 5+ stars! Thank you for sharing. I will be making this again many times over during this summer … and maybe into the fall & winter as we are a family who loves peaches!

    I agree with the posters who used less sugar and more peaches, but this is a great recipe! I used 8 peaches (loved the peeling method, really works!), and 1/3 c. sugar with 3/4 c. whole wheat flour and 1/4 white flour, with only 1 tsp. of baking powder, and added 1 tsp vanilla extract….the peaches were so overripe, no need for added sugar….myum, myum!! I also used 2 tablespoons of butter instead of 6…need to cut back when just my daughter and I share the whole thing to ourselves!

    This is how my grandmothers ustomal it! One used rhubarb and strawberries, one ue whatever fruit or berries or applles she had on hand. Its fun for kids to help assemble and then watch the batter emerge from below and form a crust while baking. I used fresh white peaches. I’d add a splash of vanilla extract next time.

  20. This peach cobbler is DELISH! And so easy! I used frozen peaches… there was quite a bit of juice so I put a couple of tablespoons in the batter for extra peachy taste. I too will cut back a little on the sugar next time, but this is a new go to recipe for sure.

    I made this peach cobbler and it is very good. Thank you for sharing the method for removing the peach skins. Unfortunately, there was no method recommend for removing the peach pits. They’re not as simple as avocados. I have been looking for a recipe for mango cobbler and I think this will work. I’ll use canned mangoes.

    Oh. My. Goodness. This recipe is, hands to Heaven, scrumptious! I had just purchased eight peaches from a farmers market and I didn’t want peaches left over so I used them all.     I used 12 medium size peaches and less sugar in the batter. I also added 1 tsp. cinammon to the peaches and probably a 1/2 tsp. to the batter. Because I was short on time, I baked it at 375 degrees. Delicious!

    This is a very tasty recipe…and very forgiving. Sometimes I have a few more Peaches and use them all and it still works perfectly. You can also reduce the amount of sugar used in the recipe and it turns out fantastic every time. I have made this as a “last minute” desert because it comes together so quickly.

    A good recipe but far too sweet. I used half as much sugar in the peaches and it was still sickly sweet.

  43. My two cast iron skillets are in the oven as we speak, with this recipe inside. I added a teaspoon of ginger, a teaspoon of nutmeg, and a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice to the flour mixture. I also added a teaspoon of vanilla to my 2 21 oz canned peaches on the stove. I just LOVE how you layer the ingredients and that crust comes from the bottom and rises on top.     My peach cobbler took way, way, WAY longer than 40 minutes to bake. OK, it’s true that I didn’t have a pan the size you call for, so I used a smaller but deeper pan, which would make it take longer. Also, the amount of canned peaches I had was 7 cups (including the liquid), so I increased the other ingredients proportionately. That yielded a bigger batch, which would also increase the baking time required.

    But it took SO much longer to bake! I’m wondering now whether you should maybe specify that amount of drained peaches and the amount of liquid from the can to include because these proportions could vary from brand to brand, right?

    Followed instructions completely. Last minute family lunch, with just a can of peaches. It was the best dessert! I used a Pyrex Glass dish to bake. Not sure if it was that or our oven, ended up baking for 55min until the colour came. Still turned out moist and tasty. The whole family loved it!

  57. I’ve made this twice, and it’s so good! Definitely sugar your peaches to taste (don’t just dump in the whole amount at once!) I use frozen peaches from the summer, so when they thaw, there is a lot of juice that seeped out of the fruit. I take this juice and boil it down so that there isn’t so much left when the cobbler is done (there is so much peachy flavour in the juice, so don’t just throw it out) I also didn’t salt the batter or the peaches, and it came out fine without it (something about salt with peaches just doesn’t tingle my tastebuds!) A reminder to everyone, fuss around with a recipe a bit before you decide you hate it. Your personal preference may require a bit of tweaking of the recipe to make it suit you.

    1. Just looking at the list of ingredients, I knew it would be too sweet (one cup of sugar for only a cup of flour, yikes!). So I cut the sugar in half, used 1/2 a cup. Worked fine.

    Made this recipe last night (with a few minor changes)….so so good! We love the “crust”!!!!! I had frozen peaches and I always add a bit of ginger, brown sugar and bourbon to peach desserts so……I used 1/2 white sugar and 1/2 brown sugar with the ginger and bourbon. Because I had 6 cups of peaches I made the batter, as per the recipe but made it 1.5 due to the extra peaches. SO GOOD! SO EASY! Thank you!!! This is going to make it into the binder!!!!!     Hi Lauren, made this recipe for the 1st time in my life as peaches were well priced. I did everything as instructed &the center of cobbler was very wet so left on for 10min longer & a further 10. As a result the edges were lil more done&brown than your pic. As i hv never ever eaten cobbler before, was not sure if cobbler is to be moist. Please enlighten me. I did cut the sugar by half &yet it was sweet – the peaches must hv been a very sweet variety.

    Waaay too sweet for me. Next time I’ll try to find a way to reduce the sugar. I used home canned peaches in light syrup. I didn’t use all of the syrup (and added no extra sugar to the peaches themselves per the recipe) and it was still too sweet.

    If you’re someone who does not like sickeningly sweet desserts like us, then maybe keep looking for another recipe. Otherwise, it turned out beautiful with a good texture even being gluten free and dairy free.

    Excellent Recipe. I did however make a couple of changes. Because the can peaches weren’t sweet enough, I added brown sugar instead of white.
    I also had some wonderful dried cherries on hand, so I simmered 2 cups of them in water (just enough to cover) to almost the same consistency as the peaches and added the cherries and juice to the peaches. All I Can Say Is WOW!!!

    I love this recipe. I first made it for my Bible study group and they loved it. I am a cook for a Bible school and I started making this recipe for my 250 students. I have had a lot of 5 star reviews. I use canned peaches and it works great.

    1. I made a lactose free/ Gluten free peach cobbler. I used Ghee for the butter and Gluten free flour. I didn’t eat it, but the review were great.

    This recipe is a keeper! It is simple, classic and versatile. I didn’t have enough frozen peaches and added some blueberries. It was great. Melting the butter first is important as the cake takes on a distinct buttery taste.

    I tried this and followed the instructions and even gave an extra 10 minutes in the oven. Came out gelatinous and mostly undercooked in the entire center while beautifully golden brown on top. I’d recommend using a much larger pan so it is not so thick or half the amount of peaches. What was cooked tasted alright.

    This recipe sounds very similar to our family recipe. Lost my recipes in a house fire and was excited to find this! Just made it and my experience was the canned peaches I used had too much juice and not enough peaches. We also sprinkled sugar and cinnamon on top. I think with a more conservative use of the peach juice this will be perfect! Can’t wait to try again!

    do NOT follow this recipe. it does not give you crumble it’s a liquid batter and pool of butter MESS. we had 2 people double-checking the measurements followed it exactly please DO NOT MAKE IT!! the part of the batter that did cook was just plain cake? very strange… wasn’t even cobbler just like the worlds plainest muffin. used a lot of sugar for the peaches too, they were swimming in liquid sugar water. basically this whole recipe was watery.

  79. Do not drain the peaches! I don’t know why someone would do that, that is what creates the texture of what a cobbler is supposed to be. It would be really dry. I did sprinkle quite a bit of cinnamon sugar on top. Make it as is and then if you want to change it, go for it! I think it was absolutely perfect just the way it is.

    This didn’t work, for me. I followed the recipe, and I felt there was too much butter and the crust was chewy. I am also accustomed to a more flavorful crust. I’d definitely suggest adding some flavor to the dough. When using canned peaches, I’d also drain peaches, add brown sugar/cinn/vanilla & simmer.

    I’ll probably go with a different recipe or doctor up this one, next time.

I used canned peaches and I’m not sure if I was suppose to drain some of the liquid out or not so I dumped it all in and it seemed like too much water so I poured some of it out as best as I can. Hopefully it comes out well as it seemed like wayy too much water. I’ll update this comment when it comes out of the oven. 🙂

    Now I don’t know how this would’ve come out of using fresh peaches, but definitely DO NOT use canned peaches undrained. I would use no more than half the juice because it came out a watery mess. I also used about half the amount of sugar called for in the recipe and it was still a tad too sweet. It still tastes good, but definitely needs some adjustments, especially if using canned.

    I baked this for the first time today. Perfect for an unsually wet and chilly mid spring day in Sydney, Australia. I’ve never had Peach Cobbler before, so I was excited to give it a try. I used a 825g tin of peaches, though did not use the syrup as there was way too much – probably about half the tin was syrup. I cooked it for roughly 50mins. As it was my first time eating peach cobbler, I didn’t have anything to compare to. I think it turned out pretty good though
    as hubby and daughter loved it, and it’s hard to get my daughter to eat fruit. Also glad it doesn’t have eggs, as I cant really eat them. Gotta say this was a winner with us. Will definitely make it again, so easy too. Will try with fresh peaches seeing as they are in season atm. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

    So I did everything in the recipe calls for. It came out great but mine came out more like cakeish w a very caramelized edges not burnt at all just super buttery I’d want these edges on cornbeard for sure. I think mine came out like a cake tho because I mixed the top half w a fork to get the cinnamon distributed. Don’t do that.

Always turned out well, the timing works between preheating the oven, putting the sugar with the fruit, and then mixing the quick batter. Super simple and delicious.

    There is way too much liquid in this recipe. I would drop the butter to 4 teaspoons instead of 4 tablespoons and drain the peaches. Otherwise it’s just a glunky lake in the middle of under cooked batter.

  103. I loved this recipe. I did have a few small adjustments. My first batch was a bit juicy and a bit sweet for my taste. I tripled the second batch. Because why not? (I used fresh peaches both times) I added some lemon juice to help activate the baking soda and reduced the sugar a bit. My second batch fit into 2 pans nicely, it wasn’t too juicy at all and is so good. The recipe is easy to make and tastes amazing. It’s a winner at my house.

    This is my first time making peach cobbler. I had everything on hand and used canned peaches. I didn’t drain, just spooned them out. I mixed the cinnamon with the batter am glad I did. I used a foil 9×13 pan and was worried it would come out burnt. I baked for 41 minutes and it came out great! Next time, I’ll pour a little more of the peach juice and lessen the sugar. It went great with vanilla ice cream!

    While this tasted good and was easy to pull together, I ended up baking it an additional 35 minutes. Perhaps it was due to the ripeness of the peaches or the amount of sugar but there is a lot of liquid in this recipe. I would add some corn flour or reduce the milk by a quarter cup should I return to this recipe again.

    I’m waiting for my boyfriend to come home to try this! I changed the recipe a little; I used whole wheat sprouted flour, coconut milk, dark brown sugar, coconut oil instead of butter and instead of using sugar to coat the peaches, I used local honey.

    Flavor is great, cook time took a lot longer about 1hr 20min. But I think that’s because of the juice from the canned peaches I used.
    I would recommend when using the canned or bottled peaches to reduce the juice by half of whatever container your using OR to thicken the juice prior to placing in baking dish and baking.

    I found this recipe to be very easy to do
    It turned out an excellent cobbler
    The only thing I’m doing different is adding the cinnamon and a sprinkle of sugar on top at about halfway through the cooking time I found this to disperse the cinnamon and sugar over the surface of the cobbler instead of just being sucked up into the middle
    Overall I would recommend this to any beginner in baking or just anyone who loves peaches cobbler

    Tried this recipe today, the batter part came out almost completely uncooked even after I turned the temp up and added time in the oven.
    I compared the milk and butter portions to a recipe in an old cookbook and it was almost double the amount of dairy, with the same flour measurement. I’m thinking the milk measurement needs to be adjusted, or the flour? Wouldn’t recommend this recipe unless you really know what you’re doing.

      I followed this recipe (though I did add to minutes to the bake because I prefer a crisper crust) and it came out great. Have you checked your oven temperature? After having issues with dishes coming out undercooked I found my oven was consistently 35 degrees colder than expected! If it is off there should be a way to adjust the temperature.

    Our new house has a peach tree in the back yard. When they ripened we had many good sized peaches. We gave a lot away and still had some. I didn’t want them to go to waste so I looked up easy peach cobbler recipe. I’m not a baker so the easier the better. This recipe was not only simple but delicious.     This recipe is quite delicious! I suggest adding a little more peaches (maybe two more). I felt like there’s not enough peaches to the mix. The second time I made it, I changed the white to brown sugar (the one cooked with the peaches)and reduced it to 3/4 cup. The original recipe is just a little to sweet for my liking. I added a bunch of cinnamon on top since I love the taste of cinnamon spice in it. My family quickly devoured the whole thing!

  155. I made this cobbler today. I actually received a similar recipe from my Grandmother years ago. Very similar. I did end up however make it more like I remember hers.

    I melt the butter pour into pan that I sprayed with Pam. Sliced washed peaches skin and all. Place on top of butter. Sprinkle cinnamon on top. In bowl flour milk baking powder salt. Mix up and pour over peaches. Bake 375 30 minutes. Much quicker. Very yummy.

    Quick and easy. I used fresh, in-season Colorado peaches (THE best) and threw in a couple of plums because I had them. I also halved the sugar and cut 2 TB out of the butter.     I had been craving homemade Peach Cobbler for months, but no one locally was selling it. I finally decided to bake it myself. I usually use canned peaches but wanted to try fresh peaches and I am happy I did. Your recipe was simple to follow and quick to prepare. Instead of using 5 peaches, I used 7 and I allowed the peaches to simmer for 20 minutes for more juice production…delicious. I also added pure vanilla and almond extract with 1/2 teaspoon of Dark Rum for added flavor. For our dessert last night, I topped this delectable delight with two scoops of No-Sugar added Vanilla Ice-Cream. This cobbler cooked to perfection and we love it! My husband won’t stop eating it

    Really great and SO easy! Made it 3 times in 3 days! Delicious. I used fresh, tree ripened peaches, so only 1/2 C sugar in the peaches, and 3/4 Cup of sugar to 1 and 1/4 C flour in the batter, but other than that, followed the recipe.     Used 3 cups sliced peaches 🍑 and one cup fresh cherries 🍒. Yummy! Based on reviews I reduced sugar in fruit mixture to 1/2 cup. Looked liked to much liquid with fruit so I added 1 tbs tapioca. ( I don’t like wet, runny cobbler). It worked out well as the fruit set up as a pie filling consistency. Maybe next time I’ll leave the tapioca out and see how it turns out.

    This is the best peach cobbler recipe! By putting the peaches over the cake batter all the peach juice bakes into the cake, and the melted butter in the bottom gives the cake a little crispness. I made two small modifications. Because my husband is diabetic I cut the sugar on the peaches to 1/4 cup and halved the sugar in the cake part of the cobbler. No one missed the extra sugar. Also I didn’t cook the peaches but lightly sugared these & let stand for 2 hours. This recipe is a keeper!! Thanks for sharing it!

Or before my husband goes to the store and texts me; “How many peaches do you need for cobbler?”…..I said 12, he bought 11, I used them all, cannot waste any Palisade peaches! I only used the 1/2 cup of sugar and then read, five peaches…on my! I tasted the peach and sugar mixture, it was fantastic. So I went with it. Lets just say it is heavy on the peaches, but dang tasty! There is a lot of juice in the cobbler, but that just means that it can be drizzled over vanilla ice cream that is on top of the cobbler! YUM! Next time though, I will only use five peaches, less time having my hands covered in peach slime… 🙂

    Delicious. Im not much if a baker but I was given about 4 dozen peaches so I had to make use of them. I doubled the recipe so it needed longer to cook (about an hour). I erroneously put the cinnamon in the flour and it still was devine! My first time ever having peach cobbler. Thank you.

    Delicious! I didn’t have any baking powder on hand so I substituted a cup of buttermilk + teaspoon of baking soda and it turned out great! Since it was already a good consistency from the buttermilk, I only added a splash of regular milk. Also saved myself some time and didn’t peel the peaches and they still turned out with a perfect consistency and luckily the skins weren’t chewy. Didn’t have any vanilla ice cream but it would’ve been the perfect addition! Will def add next time!

      I made this recipe twice because it didn’t turn out well the first time., and I was making it for my neighbor’s birthday. I was embarrassed, so the next day I made it again. The second time was only slightly better. I used fresh, juicy peaches from a local ranch. The first time it came out too juicy and there was no rising crust. Maybe because I used almond flour. So the second time I used regular all-purpose and I didn’t heat the peaches and sugar because the peaches were so juicy. It turned out slightly better and tasted better, but there wasn’t much crust. Not like the photos. Maybe I should try it a third time or find a recipe that works better for me.

    I just made this recipe and it was fabulous and so easy! I do not consider myself a good cook, so I was amazed when it turned out like it did. The only thing I did a bit differently was not to use any sugar with my fresh peaches, as we like our fruit desserts less sweet. Thank you for this great recipe.     This is super simple and delicious, and will make your house smell amazing. I do find it quite sweet, so I only use about a quarter cup of sugar in the peaches and maybe 1/2 to 3/4 cup in the batter, and I like it much better, especially since we always serve it with ice cream. It’s also great with a handfull or two of blueberries added! We also like to turn leftovers into breakfast the next day by topping with a spoonful of yogurt. It’s now my go-to cobbler recipe.

    I’ve made this using both fresh, and canned peaches.
    Fresh peaches are waaaaay better. The canned peaches ended up having to much liquid, so the batter just wasn’t able to firm up. But we ate around the soggy stuff because it was still super yummy!

    I used half the sugar suggested, and it’s perfect for me. (I almost always reduce the amount of sugar; in this case I worried it might not produce enough juice, etc., but it turns out to be just right. I personally can’t imagine it being any sweeter.) This is a really great recipe; I had never made pile-the-fruit-on-top style of cobbler, which is ten times easier and even more delicious. The reason it’s more delicious, I think, is that melting the butter and then pouring the batter into the hot pan (which wasn’t even that hot, since I took it out as soon as the butter melted, which was right after I put all the dry ingredients together; I still had to mix them and then pour the milk, add it, and put cinnamon on). The reason I mention that the pan wasn’t *perfectly* hot is that even so, it created a yummy crustiness on the bottom that, in my opinion, takes this cobbler to the next level. I haven’t made peach cobbler in several years — I’m always trying to reduce my sugar consumption, but I realized that every single year I resolve to make peach cobbler and then every single year I seem to decide not to, which goes against my “healthy diet but don’t deprive myself of treats 100% of the time” — and this was the perfect way to get back into the cobbler business! Thanks for my very favorite cobbler recipe ever!

    I watched the video and followed the recipe exactly except that I didn’t have any milk but I had cream. So I used it instead. The batter was VERY dry, (I’m thinking because the cream was thicker than the milk) so I added an additional 1/4 cup so it had the consistency that the video showed. I also had a few more peaches than the recipe called for but added them. This turned out delicious. Last week I made a peach crunch and everyone loved it. So, with all of the peaches from my trees I decided to try something different and looked for a 5 star recipe and this one did not disappoint.     Yes, this recipe deserves all five stars! Blanching the peaches first made peeling a breeze. The crust is tender and cake-like. The fresh peaches just melt in your mouth. I had to add two minutes to the bake time to get the top brown. After I took it out of the oven, I dotted the top with butter. Hubs gave it his highest praise, “Whoa.” I wouldn’t change a thing, except next time, I’ll make it with blackberries.

    I tried making this a few days ago and accidentally messed everything up, first by not taking the time to read through the recipe beforehand like I normally do, but I was just so excited to get to make it! I got way too easily distracted. XD
    I also have a just-turned six-year-old son… Long story short I over-measured the milk for the batter, and I accidently overbaked it! I never do that! Lol! It was still edible, and I was still oooing and ahhhing over it, but yeah… I had to remake it. But I was out of peaches by this time so it got fresh cherries and blackberries in equal measure to make up for the peaches, and it was amazing!

    Even though I made it incorrectly, it still turned out awesome! (I forgot to put the butter in the dish to melt it.)
    A few tweaks: 1) I added more peaches. And I would add even more again. When I make apple crisp it calls for 4 cups for an 8×8 dish. I usually use 4-5 cups for a dish that size. For a 9×13 I would totally use 10 cups! Personal preference to have more fruit. 2) Next time I will reduce the sugar in the peaches. Using 1/2 to 2/3 what the recipe calls for will be plenty, I think. I found using the full amount to be too sweet. 3) I reduced the sugar in the batter by 25%. The full amount sounded like a LOT. On eating it, I’m really glad I used less! Can’t wait to try it again with less sugar in the peaches and less sugar in the batter. My family and I like cinnamon, so I added what sounded “right” and looked “right” in both the peaches and the batter.
    The cobbler was SO delicious! The batter turned out fluffy and yummy. I didn’t expect it to rise as much as it did and it was a lovely surprise! The cook time and temp were perfect. 🙂 The juices will be more runny as the cobbler is hot and fresh out of the oven. As we have eaten the leftovers, the juices have soaked more into the cobbler topping. That’s kind of nice to not be so runny. I’m sharing this one with friends!

    Delicious and really easy to put together! I picked up 25 pounds of peaches from #thepeachtruck earlier this week and finally had time to make this Peach Cobbler!! I added 2 tsps of cinnamon to the flour mixture because I love cinnamon and I skipped the step where you heat up the peaches before adding to the cobbler mixture, because the peaches & sugar were already very juicy.

    I had a lot of extra peaches so I wanted to make peach cobbler to use them all up, and this recipe was great! The bake turned out very nice. I saw several replies mention that it was too sweet, so I reduced the sugar in the peach mix to only 1/2 cup and added about two tablespoons of brown sugar. I added some nutmeg and cinnamon to the peaches, and some to the batter in addition to the cinnamon on top of the whole thing because I thought it could use some more flavor. If you do not wish to add flavoring, I believe that it would taste good all the same. Thanks for the recipe!

    I made it today… I had peaches and nectarines, so I used 3 peaches and 2 nectarines. They were super ripe, so I cut back the sugar a little. The recipe was great! Not too sweet as some comments state. But I am sure that is relative. My only complaint is the cobbler part did not bubble over the peach/nectarine mixture like in the pictures or like typical cobblers. I followed the recipe otherwise (other than the modifications mentioned) to the letter. I did need to bake about 15 minutes longer to get a nice browning on the top. Would definitely use again!

    Good recipe! Sweet and delicious. But beware – after you shock your peaches, the skin comes off easily but it is very difficult to get the pit out. The peaches are just too slick so the pit hangs on and you butcher your fruit. The next batch I froze the peaches after peeling and it was much easier to cut out the pit like you would an avocado.

  278. I decided to make this peach cobbler after seeing it had almost 5 stars! Unfortunately though, I wasn’t able to find perfctly ripened peaches, so I was subjected to using canned peaches. However it was an absolute slam dunk hit at our family barbeque! It had the perfect balance of crispiness and caramelizing around the edging until we began cutting into the center where it looked more like vanilla pudding with peaches than it did baked cobbler or cake! But I will admit- it honestly went against my better judgement when I followed the instructions to NOT drain the canned peachess, but I rationalized that surely 1K reviewers couldn’t be wrong, but then again, maybe all those reviewing this recipe used ripened peaches- not UNDRAINED canned peaches! I immediately began researching what may have caused my “runny batter syndrome” and found out that it was indeed the wrong call to not drain the peaches! It was explained that the juice runs into the batter thus making it almost impossible to fully cook the wet center. I will definitely use this delicious recipe again, but I will also be sure to use ripened peaches or DRAIN the canned peaches! *I also added pure vanilla extract to my batter and the peaches.

    I used very ripe yellow peaches and just tossed the slices with a bit of sugar in a bowl–I didn’t warm the peaches at all. I added about 1 tsp vanilla to the batter and skipped the cinnamon. And less salt (since I didn’t add to the peaches) is always better. Turned out perfect!

    I made this tonight and it turned out great will definitely make again it would have been really good with vanilla ice cream but my wife wouldn’t go and get any lol I did make a couple of modifications first I used 7 peaches then I put a teaspoon of vanilla in the batter mix and I used the whole stick of butter

  289. Excellent! Made this tonight, never attempted any fresh fruit cobbler or pie and it was to die for! I put alittle cinnamon in the batter and sprinkled a bit more over the fresh peaches before baking but otherwise followed recipe and it turned out amazing! Will be making this again.

    Fantastic. I got a box of peaches from The Peach Truck Sunday. I made this using about 50% more peaches than recommended. I bought fresh baking powder and flour since I don’t bake much. It was pretty sweet so I think next time I might use only 1/2 cup sugar in the peaches instead of 3/4 cup. Other than that it’s wonderful.

    Made as directed for 9×13 pan ( 1.5 X)

    PRO TIP: do not bother peeling the peaches! You will not notice the skins at all once baked and it saves a TON of effort.

    Came out looking and tasting like the height of summer.
    Topping was flavorful and very light. Did not rise much but I blame old baking powder.

    Even terrific the next day. Killer for breakfast with a nice cuppa joe.

    This is a can’t miss recipe!

    Just made this for my hubby who hates cooked fruit and doesn’t like cobblers and he said “That’s a hit.” Made it exactly as the recipe said and it came out perfect. I actually was afraid after I heated the fruit with the sugar that there would be too much liquid but it was perfect. That hardest part was blanching and peeling/slicing the fresh peaches and that wasn’t really hard, just time consuming. Thanks so much for this recipe! It is going to become a regular!

  294. Mine turned out horribly. The butter and batter didn’t mix well and seemed too liquidy. It covered my peaches entirely. I baked for less than the full suggested time because it was getting crusty on the edges and brown and yet the cobbler part was doughy and mushy. I was so disappointed. I followed the directions exactly. When I noticed it was liquidy I even rechecked my measuring devices to make sure I used the correct amount. I hope others had better luck. My grands said “ I don’t want any of that dirty looking dessert.

      I make this all the time ….
      I’ve even used self rising flour.. leaving out the baking powder and salt . I’ve use nectarines blackberries, apples.

  298. I’m assuming large peaches were used if you try to boil and ice bathe them? I had some small peaches and didn’t think about it but they ended up being really mushy. I cut the boiling time to 15 min and it helped a little. I’d say if you’re having to use small fresh peaches and you want to boil for an easy peel do 10-15 min boil and let sit in an ice bath for maybe 5-10 min. I also accidentally put cinnamon in the batter instead of on the peaches before baking, but I think it turned out really good that way!

      You’re not supposed to boil them for that long. You just blanch the peaches for a few seconds in boiling water then take them out and throw them in the ice bath. The point is to make the skins easier to peel off. Then when you add them to the batter and bake it in the oven for ~40 minutes that’s what cooks them. 🙂

    2. They are only supposed to be dipped into the boiling water for 30 seconds….2/3 peaches at a time, you just accidentally read it as minutes.

    3. 30 sec dip into boiling water for easy peeling is all that is needed. Do not return water to a boil after putting peaches in the water. …. just dip 30 secs and then ice bath

  310. Im not a dessert expert but this recioe has been a source of discussion in my family for a while. I hope you can clarify. We, like you, call this cobbler but i dont think its really cobler. Every reataurant ive been too that seels cobler sells something with a crust. This doesnt have a crust but is cake like with fruit throughout the dough. Ive seen some references to a dump cake or crumble for this. This recipe is our go to dessert, especially with blackberries in the spring. Not critiquing anything just trying to clarify the definition.

    Turned out great. Used mostly fresh peaches and 1 can of peaches. Using eye=ball measuring, when i saw my batter was a little runny i held back some of the juice from peaches (1/3-1/2 cup) and baked up fine. Batter rose to top. Yum

    1. Sorry but the batter needs to be prepared fresh. You could always measure out the dry and wet ingredients and store them separately, to make it quick to add together just before baking.

  317. Added about 1/2 cup flour and 1/8 cup milk extra to have more body to this recipe I had tried once before. As before, I used canned peaches! This time I liked the results better. Easy Peazy and Oh So Good.

    Delicious and so simple.
    It seemed weird to add the batter first, but the batter rises up and cooks around the peaches perfectly.
    I have a very small oven, so had to cut the recipe in half and bake in two pans.
    Like others have commented, it’s not too sweet.
    I have made this multiple times now.
    Easy and so good!

    Made it tonight. It was so simple and delicious! I’m picky about texture when it comes to cobbler. Even store bought kinds are typically gooey. This recipe is spot on perfect. I read comments about sweetness. Since I was using firm fresh peaches that we picked earlier in the day, I figured I’d balance it out. I didn’t use the full amount written in the recipe, but I also didn’t reduce the sugar as drastically like some comments suggested. I left out about 1/4 with the batter and did the same with the peaches. I have to monitor my sugar intake daily, so this would be a splurge for me anyways. For the rest of my family, I’m sure following exact measurements in the recipe would still produce a totally fine cobbler and not overly sweet. This was so yummy I ate 2 bowls! The balance of a crispy bottom and soft top is amazing! I baked for 38-40 minutes and added 2 dashes of all spice to the dry batter just for fun. Thankfully I had just enough cinnamon for the cobbler. This recipe is being saved permanently, and I totally plan on making it again. TY for sharing with us!!

    My first mistake was following the recipe. It still wasn’t baked after 1 hour.Most recipes call for the batter to go on top, but I followed the recipe. I used canned peaches with the juice as the recipe says. Maybe too much juice. Maybe batter should go on top, but the batter is still not cooked enough.

    Have enjoyed this for years. Thank you for sharing. I replace half of the sugar with the canned peach juice. Then 3/4 of the way done pour remaining juice, about 3/4 cup, over cobbler and continue to bake. What an old fashioned peach taste! Not mushy at all and packed with flavor.

    It tastes great, but my fruit stayed on top and the batter stayed on the bottom. As a result there was a dark edge to the cake and it was super gooey in the middle. I cooked it at 350 and ended up leaving it in for a little over an hour. What did I do wrong?
