Every summer when watermelon comes in season my kids get excited to help make these “fruit sparklers”. We call them fruit sparklers because they remind us of holding firework sparklers during the summer holidays, and they’re patriotic with the watermelon stars on top. They are so simple but make a really fun and easy summer treat.
What you will need to make Fruit Sparklers:
- Ripe watermelom
- Fresh blueberries
- bamboo skewers
- star cookie cutter
Slice the watermelon, vertically, into one inch slices. Use the star cookie cutter to cut stars from the flesh of the watermelon.
Thread 7-10 blueberries into the center of each bamboo skewer, leaving enough space at the end for someone to be able to comfortably hold it, and a space at the top for the watermelon star.
Add the watermelon star. Store, covered, in the fridge until ready to serve.

Looks like a tasty & healthy addition to a summer meal, kids play date snack, group gathering, or a friendly bbq, Lauren! It’d be easy enough to try it with pineapples or melon for the stars, and red or green grapes for the base for diversity! Love it!! Thanks for sharing!! 😋💝
Complete fail for me. Watermelon did not hold star shape. Fell apart. To be successfully I think it depends on the quality of watermelon. Bummer.
Darn! Yes, a mushy watermelon won’t hold shape well. Hopefully, you were able to salvage your watermelon.
Simple, fun and festive. Makes family get togethers so much more fun for everybody.Thank you!
Would you recommend the watermelon be cold b4 cutting the stars?
I don’t think it really matters, but it may cut a little sharper and easier if it’s cold.
I LOVE this! So fun and festive.

There are usually a pretty decent sized group of kids at our celebrations, so this is definitely going to be part of the spread!
Love the idea! Thanks for sharing!
Genius! So simple, but so smart, and so cute too! There are usually a pretty decent sized group of kids at our celebrations, so this is definitely going to be part of the spread!
Great idea! I did watermelon triangles on a stick last year (rind left on the bottom) and they were a hit, but this looks even better!
Thanks, Kate
