Why I love this bread:

  • Applesauce – The applesauce is really the star of the show, so make sure to choose a good brand of unsweetened applesauce, or make my easy Homemade Applesauce or Instant Pot Applesauce!
  • Unique – Everyone’s familiar with banana bread but this bread is fun and different and so tasty!
  • Healthier – Made with unsweetened applesauce, greek yogurt, and some whole wheat flour, you can feel good about indulging in this tasty bread!

How to make Applesauce Bread:

Prep Loaf Pans: Line bottom of a 8.5 x 4.5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper (to prevent bread from sticking to the bottom of pan). Lightly grease insides of pan with cooking spray.

Whisk together oil, granulated sugar and brown sugar. Add eggs, whisking until smooth. Add applesauce, vanilla, and Greek yogurt. Mix until well-combined.

Combine flours, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and stir with wet ingredients until just combined–don’t over-mix.

Bake: Pour batter into loaf pan and spread into an even layer. Bake at 350ºF for 45-55 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean with just moist crumbs. Remove from oven. Run a knife gently around the side of the pan and then remove bread onto a cooling rack. Enjoy!

Make Ahead and Freezing Instructions:

To Make Ahead: Applesauce bread will stay fresh for 3-5 days, stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

To Freeze: Allow baked bread to cool completely then wrap in plastic wrap and store it in a freezer safe bag for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature.

Recipe Variations:

  • Mini Loaves: The batter in this recipe will fill three 5-3/4-in. x 3-in. x 2-in. loaf pans. Bake at 350º for 30-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Crumb Topping: Mix ¼ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup oats, ½ cup all-purpose flour, ½ tsp cinnamon, and 3 Tablespoons melted butter. Press lightly into the top of the uncooked bread just before baking.
  • Mix-Ins– Add a heaping ½ cup of any of the following:
    • Nuts (chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds).
    • Raisins or other dried fruit.
    • Chocolate chips.

Made as directed but didn’t add the topping. While it’s nice and moist, it’s extremely sweet which we find gross. I’ll make it again, but drastically cut the sugar.

i tried to make this for thanksgiving breakfast, the crumble topping literally became part of the mix. it melted completely into it and just looks like a crumble-less cake. i’m not sure if i did anything wrong but the mix tasted delicious. regardless i would make again just no crumble bc it melted on me and just added meaningless calories.

  3. Outstanding!! Moist and delicious!! Only added thing I did(as I didn’t have parchment paper), I sprayed loaf pans with non stick butter spray and dusted them with sugar. Also added half a very ripe banana and came out awesome. Would highly recommend!

  4. I made this apple bread and used the crumb topping recipe provided. It spilled over while baking even though I had the correct size pan. Chucks of the crumb topping fell to the bottom of my oven while baking. Needless to say my kitchen smelled burnt instead of amazing 🙁 Perhaps cut crumb topping recipe in half.
